welcome / bienvenidos
Welcome to all 1,155 newsletter subscribers!
May brings a wave of holidays and activities. We want to wish a Happy Mother's Day to moms everywhere (May 10 in Mexico and May 13 in the US and Canada) and to give a gold star to all the hardworking teachers out there (Teacher's Day is May 15). To find out what else is happening during the next two weeks, read through the information below and take a peek at our online Community Calendar.
This issue features important information regarding destructive palm beetles in our area. We have several JBAR adoption stories to start off our celebration of National Pet Month. Angelina's Casa construction is moving right along. We have received a birding initiative letter from Luis Morales of the San Pancho Bird Observatory. And treat yourself to a Cinco de Mayo favorite Allyson has included in this issue; a Guacamole recipe that already has my mouth watering just thinking about it!
To help plan your upcoming trip or your day in the Bay, don't forget to check the current weather conditions on the Official Jaltemba Bay Weather Page. Like many businesses here in the Bay, we are switching over to summer hours. Rather than publishing our newsletter every week, you will now receive it every other week instead. Be sure to watch for the next issue of the Jaltemba Bay Life Newsletter, which will arrive in your Inbox on Tuesday, May 15, just in time for your morning coffee. Saludos! Iridescent Bug in My Garden
by Tosia Archer

This lovely, large (about 1.5 inches long) and iridescent bug caught my eye as it quickly flew into one of my flowers several weeks ago. It was moving about quite erratically and I only managed to snap this one photo of it. If you think you may know what it is, please let me know by clicking here.

Thursday - May 3 Tianguis, La Penita Plaza

Cinco de Mayo is the official anniversary of the country's victory over the French at the Battle of Puebla in 1862 (it is not Mexican Independence Day like many people think, which is on September 16th). This day is typically celebrated with bands and parades with re-enactments of the final battle. While Cinco de Mayo is a big celebration in the US, it is no longer a national holiday here in Mexico, but rather a banking one.
