A few weeks ago, we packed up the pups and went on a short day trip. Towards the end of our excursion, we decided to explore the road to Loma Alta just south of Las Varas. We drove for nearly 20 minutes, but the rough and very narrow road didn't seem to be headed anywhere anytime soon so we turned around. On the way back to the highway, I spotted a Llamarada (also known as a Flame of the Forest or African Tulip Tree).  Read more

Zona Residencial Social Fund-Raising Dinner

The Zona Residencial Social Fund-Raising Dinner will be held on Monday, February 13, 2012 at Flamingos #4 in Guayabitos. All proceeds will go towards area maintenance, beautification and upgrades. Reiki Workshop in Guayabitos

I will be teaching a Reiki Workshop for Reiki Levels 1 and 2 in Guayabitos on January 28th. Reiki is an ancient form of healing hands, similiar to therapeutic touch, which accesses a universal healing energy. It is beneficial to both the practitioner and to the person receiving. This is a spiritual practice, but not related to a specific religion.  Read more

3rd Annual Rotary Dinner Dance & Auction
The Rotary Dinner Dance & Auction will be held Saturday, January 21 at Tonita's III in La Penita. Tickets are 300 pesos and include dinner, a beverage, dancing and lots of fun! Xaltemba Gallery is honored to present "Suite Mexico" the work of Abraham Lopez and Miguel Castellanos, two artists from Guadalajara. The exhibit, "Suite Mexico" is the vision of these two artists with a different approach on the theme of Mexico as a place of beautiful images, color, music and in particular, it's proud and happy people.  Read more

Tianguis in Guayabitos 

The Tianguis (open-air market) in Guayabitos is held every Monday during high season from 8am-1pm in the Guayabitos Plaza (map). While slightly smaller than the Thursday market in La Peņita, the atmosphere is lively and the location is charming. 


Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays:

Guayabitos Yoga

Work on strength, flexibility, core power and balance during these outdoor yoga classes. Classes start at 7:30am and 9am.  More Info 



PEACE Home Tours 

Explore traditional-style Vallarta casas to graceful haciendas and multi-million dollar ocean-front villas during this 3-hour tour. Tickets are $35 USD and all proceeds support PEACE projects.  More Info

Tianguis in La Peņita

The Tianguis (open-air market) is held every Thursday from 8am-1pm or so around the Plaza in La Peņita (map). It is "the" place to shop for silver and handmade jewelry, tablecloths and linens, glassware, Talavera pottery, Huichol Indian artwork and Oaxacan rugs. You will also find fresh fruits and veggies, homemade breads and locally-produced honey and coffee. This is one of the largest and most well-known markets in the area.



Casa Cooking Classes

Each class focuses on a traditional Mexican meal using the freshest local foods with information on ingredients, utensils and techniques. Classes are Fridays at 2pm in Guayabitos. Registration starts now!  More Info 


Grilled Oyster Bar at Los Compadres
