happy halloween bat

Welcome to all 941 subscribers of the Jaltemba Bay Life Newsletter, and many more who view it on  Jaltemba Bay Life and the Jaltemba Bay Folk Forum.

Today is Halloween, and although it is not a Mexican holiday, you will still find costumes, parties, tricks and treats. And don't be surprised if some goblins come knocking at your door.

This week is going to be a busy one with Day of the Dead and the first JBAR Spay and Neuter Clinic of the season. To find out more, read through the information below and take a peek at our online Community Calendar.

skeletonDid you remember to set your clocks back? Daylight Saving Time ended on Sunday, October 30 at 2am for Nayarit and the surrounding states. If you are driving through Mexico, keep in mind that the ten
US border municipalities do not fall back until this coming Sunday, November 6, along with the US
and Canada.

Be sure to watch for the next issue of the Jaltemba Bay Life Newsletter, which will arrive in your InBox on November 7th just in time for your morning coffee.

Jaltemba Bay Life "Giving is Good" Project

When we created Jaltemba Bay Life just 11 months ago, we had several goals in mind. We wanted to share our 19 years of experience visiting and living here, and to give back to help our community grow and prosper.

This past Monday, in celebration of our upcoming one year anniversary, we announced the Jaltemba Bay Life "Giving is Good" project.

For the next five weeks (October 24-November 30), we will donate 20% of all revenue generated through new and renewing rental, business and real estate listings to local charitable causes. This is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses and homeowners to support the Jaltemba Bay community, while getting advertising on this high traffic and popular website. In the past year, more than 45 businesses and rentals increased their visibility and their revenue by advertising on Jaltemba Bay Life.

Because women, children and animals are near and dear to our hearts, we have selected the following charities as beneficiaries of this phase of the project: Cancer de Mama, Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue (JBAR), Los Amigos Scholarship Program and PEACE Mexico. To read more about these amazing groups and organizations, please click here.

What does this mean for you, our advertisers?

If you sign up for or renew a listing during this five week period, 20% of the annual listing fee -- $100 USD for every rental and real estate listing and $60 USD for every business -- will go directly to the four local charities listed above. If your renewal date does not fall within this time-frame, you may still take part in this project. Simply renew now and we will extend your listing contract for one year from your original contract date. All rentals, businesses and real estate properties that are listed and/or renewed during this time-frame will be listed on our "Giving is Good" recognition page along with a link to your listing page.

We would like you to encourage all business and homeowners to participate in this worthwhile community giving project.

Please feel free to call or email us if you have questions or would like more information.

Sincerely,

David Thompson and Allyson Williams

Founders, JaltembaBayLife.com

Forum Changes are Coming

Some of you have made it abundantly clear that you don't like the sub-forums on the new Jaltemba Bay Folk Forum. We have been working with a programmer for the past few months to come up with the "perfect" solution for all you JBay Folks. These modifications, along with a few other nifty changes, should be implemented in the next few days. You can watch for them here. We will go over them in detail once they are in place and working properly.

If you haven't used the forum for a while, you may want to read through the posts in the "How to Use This Forum" sub-forum to learn about a few features added over the summer, including how to add a profile photo, the new like button, using the new gallery and more.

November 1-2

Da de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

During this 2-day holiday, relatives celebrate the lives of those who have passed on. November 1st is All Saints' Day, when Mexicans pay homage to the souls of the children who have passed. November 2nd is All Souls' Day, when the souls of those who died in adulthood are honored. Relatives of those who died, gather at cemeteries throughout Mexico, bringing bread, fruit and decorated sugar skulls, along with candles and the favorite food of the people they are remembering, to celebrate the lives of those passed on. The mood is far from morbid: it is lively, upbeat, and is a celebration of life!
