Taco the Dog and I are flying to Mexico today. I am ready to escape the cool fall weather in Minnesota, exchange my socks for flip-flops, and visit with friends and neighbors. I see only one potential problem. During the past few weeks, I have been warned repeatedly about the heat and humidity. I'm not sure if it's really "that hot" or if my friends think I'm a wimp? I guess I'll find out soon enough. To view the current conditions, visit the Official Jaltemba Bay Weather Page
It's hard to believe, but Jaltemba Bay Life turns one year old next month. In honor of this occasion, we would like to share a very special new project. You can find out all the details below.
Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour this Sunday night. Daylight Saving Time ends October 30 at 2am in Nayarit and the surrounding states. If you are driving through Mexico, keep in mind that the ten US border municipalities do not "fall back" for three more weeks.
There's a lot going on as we approach high season. Read through the information below and take a peek at our online Community Calendar so you don't miss a thing.
And be sure to watch for the next issue of the Jaltemba Bay Life Newsletter, which will arrive in your InBox on October 31st just in time for your morning coffee.

|Announcing the Jaltemba Bay Life "Giving is Good" Project|
When we created Jaltemba Bay Life just 11 months ago, we had several goals in mind. We wanted to share our 19 years of experience visiting and living here, and to give back to help our community grow and prosper.
Today, to celebrate our upcoming one year anniversary, we are announcing the Jaltemba Bay Life "Giving is Good" Project.
For the next five weeks (October 24-November 30), we will donate 20% of all revenue generated through new and renewing rental and business listings to local charitable causes. This is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses and homeowners to support the Jaltemba Bay community, while getting advertising on this high traffic and popular website. In the past year, more than 45 businesses and rentals increased their visibility and their revenue by advertising on Jaltemba Bay Life. More >

New "Mexi-Can Vet Project 2011" Video
Dr. Malcolm Macartney and the team at the McKenzie Vet Clinic in Victoria, BC have volunteered their time and talents at the Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue (JBAR) spay and neuter clinics since February 2010. Karin Roslee from the MacKenzie Clinic just created another wonderful video featuring their partnership with PEACE and JBAR. The video is entitled the "Mexi-Can Vet Project 2011" and it is well worth a watch!
Karin also emailed us some photos of Frankie, the puppy she adopted at the April clinic. She says "Frankie has grown into a 22 pound ball of cuteness and is the most wonderful, loving dog. I am so happy that he came into my life!" To see more photos of Frankie taken then and now, click here.
To learn more about McKenzie Veterinary Service, visit mckvets.com. To learn more about the upcoming JBAR clinics, visit the Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue (JBAR) community webpage.
Preparations for the Riviera Casino Night in La Penita are Underway
by Kathy Olivas
Preparations are moving along for the Riviera Casino night event to benefit the Vida Reavivida Women's Shelter. All proceeds from the event will go towards the construction of the building. It's a place that will be very beneficial to women in the Riviera Nayarit area. We have already received numerous generous donations from the community and the support is overwhelming. Jeanie at Hidden Paradise Real Estate & Enrique at Aceros "Marlboro" in La Penita are two of our generous sponsors. Impresiones G3 in La Penita printed our tickets at cost for the event. More >

XVI Pan American Games
The games are taking place at 32 sports venues throughout the state of Jalisco, with the majority of them in Guadalajara. Games will also be held at provincial sub-sites located in Lagos de Moreno, Chapala, Ciudad Guzman and nearby Puerto Vallarta (including beach volleyball, sailing, open water swimming and the triathalon). Butterfly Festival at the Vallarta Botanical Gardens
During the end of October, there is an abundance and diversity of butterflies in the area. The Vallarta Botanical Gardens is taking advantage of this and will be offering daily tours at 1pm. They will walk you through their favorite viewing spots of these fluttering friends, and help you identify certain species. For more info, visit the Vallarta Botanical Gardens website.
Next Few Weeks
Although Halloween is not a Mexican holiday, you will still find costumes, parties, tricks and treats. And don't be surprised if some goblins come knocking at your door.
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)
During this 2-day holiday, relatives celebrate the lives of those who have passed on. November 1st is All Saints' Day, when Mexicans pay homage to the souls of the children who have passed. November 2nd is All Souls' Day, when the souls of those who died in adulthood are honored. Relatives of those who died, gather at cemeteries throughout Mexico, bringing bread, fruit and decorated sugar skulls, along with candles and the favorite food of the people they are remembering, to celebrate the lives of those passed on. The mood is far from morbid: it is lively, upbeat, and is a celebration of life!
