Matthew Davidson News
October 1, 2012

Greetings! ,

Goin' back to the Crossroads! Matthew is looking forward to returning to Clarksdale, MS this weekend for the 12th annual Pinetop Perkins Homecoming CelebrationMatthew will be performing on Sunday, Oct. 7th with Bob Margolin and the Youth Workshop Showcase (Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Jack Gaffney, and Austin Young). They will be performing on both the Juke Joint Chapel Stage and the Hopson Commissary Stage at Hopson Commissary in Clarksdale, MS.

The Homecoming is held each year on the site of the old Hopson's Plantation and began with the dedication of the Pinetop Perkins Shack at the Hopson Plantation's Shack Up Inn in October 2001. It became an annual event to honor Pinetop, who had spent World War II on the grounds of Hopson's driving one of the first mechanized cotton picking machines. The event quickly drew many fans and musicians each year who stopped by on the Sunday after the King Biscuit Festival to honor Pinetop. The celebration now attracts over 1000 fans to three stages of music. Since 2009 all the proceeds have gone directly to scholarships for youth to attend the Pinetop Perkins Master Class workshops in June, which are also held in Clarksdale, MS and attract youth and young at heart. Matthew was a 2012 recipient of one of these scholarships.

The entire event runs from 2:00 - 7:00 PM. The suggested donation is $15. Click HERE for more information and the complete list of performers.

Pinetop Perkins 2012 Summer Workshop
Matthew at Ground Zero Blues Club
Bob Margolin and Matthew
Matthew attended the 2012 Pinetop Perkins Foundation Master Class Workshop last summer, thanks to scholarships awarded by both the Pinetop Perkins Foundation and The Blues Foundation (Generation Blues). Here's a summary from Matthew of the experience:
"I enjoyed learning from Bob Margolin, meeting other musicians from across the country, and playing in the nightly jams. The jams provided me with the opportunity to play drums and bass, in addition to guitar. The Delta Blues Museum hosted a nice reception for the campers. The highlight of the camp was the last evening's performance at Ground Zero Blues Club. Each participant was featured on several songs, and I even had the unexpected bonus of getting to play drums for most of the evening!"
About Matthew Davidson -

"There is no doubt in my mind, after listening to "Step Up", that Matthew Davidson is certainly the real deal, being equally proficient in both Pop/Rock and Blues genres. He is already great in what he does and the sky is the limit regardless of which musical direction he chooses to dominate. "Step Up" is a fantastic intro to a fantastic very talented rising star." ~John Vermilyea, "Blues Underground Network" September 2012

"Matthew Davidson is blessed with a God-given, born-in-the-bone, talent. His musicianship is far beyond his age. When I play with Matthew, it's like playing with a musician with many years of experience. Always a perfect gentleman, Matthew's personality shines through in every performance. He obviously loves what he is doing!"      ~Joe Osborn, famed "Wrecking Crew" bassist who played on numerous hit records of the 60's - 70's with Glen Campbell, The Carpenters, The 5th Dimension, Simon and Garfunkel and many more
