Opening night of Artport 2012: Paired, an exhibit of over 90 local and regional artists' work to be installed at Shreveport Regional Airport as part of the Airport Authority 60th anniversary celebration is Thursday, February 9 from 6:00-9:00pm. The event is free admission and validated parking.

As one of the only revolving public art displays located in an airport setting in America, Artport will spread its wings to showcase some of the most talented artists in our region.  More than 1,000 people are expected to attend. The PAIRED 2012 show is the fourteenth installment at the airport.

The night will showcase local and regional artists' paintings created on the Paired theme.  Opposite pairs, pairs of the same, pears that we eat, or relationships; the open-to-the-public event will reveal all interpretations from intertwined giraffes, soldiers of days past and present, and even an abstract painted by Caddo the Beaver.  The two 15x36 format canvases make for interesting composition.   As well, the event will benefit The Betty and Leonard Phillips Deaf Action Center with a silent auction of artists and celebrity tiles.  Several celebrity tiles have already arrived from the likes of Leslie Jordan and Chad Allen.  These and more will bid to the highest bidder.

There are many talented artists in this area and we're happy an exhibit like Artport gives them an opportunity to showcase their work," said Mayor Cedric Glover. "An event like this is a rare occasion and we hope the community comes out to support it."

Live entertainment will be provided by The Matthew Davidson Band from 6 - 9 pm, and event goers will enjoy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar.  Artport will occupy the bottom floor and upper atrium area of Shreveport Regional Airport for the evening.  Official Artport T-shirts and catalogs will be available for sale that evening and in the Tailwind retail shop at the airport following the event.

"We're excited the airport will again highlight the region's talent and support such a worth cause," said Shreveport Airport Authority Chairman Keith Gamble. "It's fitting that the airport, which is the gateway to the city, would host an event that gives insight to our culture."

About Matthew Davidson -

"His style was advanced for his age," said Steven Johnson, Robert's grandson and vice president of the Robert Johnson Blues Foundation. "It was crisp; it was professional. His style with that electric guitar was amazing. I know Matthew will be a great ambassador for the Foundation".       ~The Shreveport Times - Jan. 4, 2012

"We recognize talent when we see it or, in this case, hear it. Matthew is awesome. He has a bright future. Keep up the great music."    ~Legends Magazine - Mississippi Arts and Entertainment Review - Jan. 12, 2012
