OUR BABY COUGAR CUB
|
Kelly (our Marketing Director) and Todd (GM) showed off their baby granddaughter Aislynn Taylor Martin-Agnew, who sported her Cougars dress and jersey in the baby contest (which she slept through) :).
The Cougars outfit was made by her great grandmother Laurel Stevens from Colborne who is the daughter of Hockey Hall of Fame Legend Billy 'the Kid' Taylor (Aislynn being his Great great granddaughter).
Little Aislynn's Grandfather, Billy "The Kid" Taylor played over 300 NHL games with four different clubs in the 30s and 40s. He was a fine playmaker and face off man who amassed nearly 200 career assists.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Taylor played junior with the Toronto British Consols and the Oshawa Generals. He also played with St. Michaels. In 1938-39 he led the OHA with 22 goals in 14 games then led all scorers when they won the Memorial Cup.
In 1939-40, Taylor split his first pro season between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the AHL's Pittsburgh Hornets. He then spent three years as a regular on the club and led all playoff skaters in assists when the team won the Stanley Cup in 1942. In 1942-43 Taylor finished sixth in NHL scoring with 60 points in 50 games while playing on a line with Lorne Carr and Sweeney Schriner. After spending two years in miltary service, he scored 23 goals for the Leafs in 1945-46. In September, 1946, Taylor was traded to the Detroit Red Wings for Harry Watson. He notched 63 points for the Motowners and set an NHL record with seven assists in one game versus the Chicago Black Hawks a record only matched today by Wayne Gretzky but a record still never beat.
Later in life, he became a scout for Philadelphia Flyers the first year they came into the league and later winning a Stanley Cup with the Flyers.
Taylor finished his career as a scout with Pittsburgh Penguins winning his third Stanley Cup Ring.

The Concert band of Cobourg together with the Cobourg Legion Pipes and Drums will perform beginning at 6:30 PM in our new 2000 seat Bowl arena. The Concert Band will perform the National Anthem along with a singer (yet to be announced) Fun starts at 6:30pm ... Puck drops at 7pm
Cobourg Legion Pipe Band will perform with the Cobourg Concert Band
 The Cobourg Legion Pipe Band will play some duets with the Concert Band!

FUN FOR THE GIRLS THIS SUMMER
|
Rebound Child & Youth Services Northumberland is thrilled to present
"UR OMG" (You Are One Magnificent Girl),
A fun and interactive workshop event encouraging girls to explore their "Real Beauty*". The workshop will incorporate material from the Dove Self-Esteem Fund and Campaign for Real Beauty, Uniquely Mecurriculums, as well as, additional sources. Staff will lead the girls through activities, crafts, and discussions surrounding the themes of self-esteem, body image, media awareness, nutrition and aspects of resiliency including: support systems, positive relationships, self-care, and coping with stress.
The workshop is being held Wednesday July 20th from 10am-4pm at Rebound's office in Cobourg and is open to girls 11-15 years.
This is a free event, where lunch, snacks and all activity supplies will be provided; however, signed consent forms are required to hold registration.
Call Rebound Child & Youth Services Northumberland, 905-372-0007 for more information or to register. You can also print off the permission sheet attached to this email and bring it in to our office.
Spaces are limited for this fun event so hurry and come in to register at the Rebound's Cobourg office.

Greetings!
It has been an extremely busy summer thus far, the Cougars had an amazing 2nd camp and Free BBQ for the Cougar Prospects. We then had a great yard sale at Canadian Tire but Mother Nature was not on our side for the car wash! We will try that again one day :)
This past weekend we had an exhibit in the Rotary Tent at the Cobourg Waterfront Festival, selling lots of home opener tickets and season ticket packages. The Cougars would like to thank the Rotary Club for inviting us to take part in their festival tent and also the parade committee for allowing us to take part in an exciting parade!
We would also like to thank our many volunteers and the hockey players who attended. Our success in the community could not be possible without you and it does not go unrecognized!
Many local charities have already booked their game nights and the Cougars organization look forward to helping to raise ever needed funds for these local charities this coming season. Last season the Cougars help to raise thousands of dollars for our local Northumberland Charitable Organizations and we hope to be able to increase this number in our 2011-12 hockey season.
If you are part of a local organization that would like to book a fundraiser night or if you are a local not for profit organization representing families of low or fixed incomes who cannot afford a family night out, please contact us for special charitable passes.
