Greetings!

As a good friend of mine asked me the other day 'are you going through hockey withdrawals'? lol yes I am ... however, we are busy planning our year end banquet for this Sunday for 160 well deserving people and their families who were part of the success of the Cougars this past season.  We have some exciting things planned for the banquet including a complimentary sit down dinner, a great DVD presentation called 'Memories were made here' which is a recap of our entire season along with the presentation of some great awards as listed further on in this newsletter.  Winners will be listed in the next newsletter to go out!

A special gathering will be held later in the year for our amazing sponsors who will also receive a copy of our year end DVD presentation and a great team photo plaque to hang in your place of business!

This newsletter will continue throughout the off season on a monthly basis to keep you up to date on events being planned for the new rink, our player signing, golf tournament, try out camp information and more ... the hockey season never ends for those behind the scenes as we are working already on next year!

If you would like to volunteer with the Cougars or you or someone you know wish to sponsor the team, please contact Kelly - Marketing Director for more information.  Next year we are going to have some even bigger sponsorship opportunities with our new Full Colour Video Scoreboard, Cougars Birthday Party program with the 'Coug' and the new mini stick rink and more ... we are VERY excited!

Finally, I would like to share a letter that was written to the editor of the Northumberland Today Newspaper and forwarded to me by sports writer Jeff Gard;

Thank you Cobourg Cougars

Thank you Cougars

The hockey season may be over but a lot of great memories will linger until the Cougars lace up again next September.

This year's team provided many very entertaining and enjoyable evenings at "the old barn".

The 2010/11 team members can certainly hold their heads up high having eliminated St, Michael's and then given Kingston everything they could handle over an exciting seven game playoff series.

To the players, coaches and management, you have truly raised the bar more than a few notches.

You have made a lousy winter bearable with your effort and commitment to produce a winner.

To the "graduates" from the team, the best of luck wherever life takes you.

To those who will be returning, have a great summer and we will be looking for you in the fall with higher than ever expectations.

One of the most enjoyable things this past year has been the new friends made among the fans.

The bus ride to Kingston the other night really drove this home and proved to be almost as much fun as the game itself.

The team owner's visit to the bus after the game to thank the fans was just one more evidence that we have a "class act" hockey organization here in Cobourg.

Get your seasons tickets early next year, friends.

With a brand new arena and many fine players eligible to return, we can all look forward to another great season. Thanks again, Cougars.

Bill Johnson, Cobourg

We wish to thank Bill for taking the time to share positive feedback with the community.  So often people are quick to publicize negative but not the positive so this article was very much appreciated.

Dear Cougar Fans, our Scout Ryan Bolton is reaching out for our help with the following cause.  He will be at the banquet on Sunday as well if you wish to make a donation to his 'Ride to Conquer Cancer'.

Hello,

I'll be participating in a 2-day major cycling event called The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer benefiting The Princess Margaret, one of the top 5 cancer research hospitals in the world.

I'll be cycling over 200 KILOMETRES that weekend, from Toronto to Niagara Falls, with thousands of other Riders. All the proceeds will go to The Princess Margaret to support cancer research, treatment, and services. The Princess Margaret is Canada's leading comprehensive institution devoted to cancer research and care, and the work they're doing is leading-edge.

I've agreed to raise at least $2,500. So here's where you come in, because I need your help to do that. Could you please consider making a donation of $100? Use the link at the bottom of this email to go visit my webpage, and please take the time to support me. Please keep in mind the commitment I'm making to end this heartbreaking disease and the personal efforts I'll have to make to accomplish this.

When I say "heartbreaking," here's what I mean: research at the National Cancer Institute of Canada show 171,000 estimated new cases of cancer in Canada this year and  75,300  estimated deaths from cancer in Canada this year. That's why I'm riding. To do something BIG about cancer. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Sincerely,

Ryan Bolton

Kingston Final

PHOTO BY PETE FISHER - NORTHUMBERLAND TODAY

KINGSTON -- Going seven games with the heavily-favoured Kingston Voyageurs wasn't much of a consolation prize for the Cobourg Cougars as their junior A hockey season came to an end Thursday night.

"We just shook some hands," said Cobourg head coach Wayne Marchment, after his club lost Game 7 of the Ontario Junior Hockey League round-of-16 playoff series 4-0 before 1,050 fans at the Invista Centre in Kingston. "There's some pretty dejected young men in there."

Cougars forward Dylon McMahon, speaking on Saturday, also acknowledged there wasn't much to say, initially.

"It was pretty quiet right after until some of our captains and other guys stood up," McMahon said, "and then our owner Marc Mercier came in the room and let us know they were really proud of us with everything we accomplished this season."

Cobourg compiled a 29-17-4 record during the regular season to place fourth in the OJHL's East Division. The playoff format was designed around conference standings, though, so the Cougars had to compete in a qualification playoff before advancing as one of the top 16 teams in the league.

Only the top three teams in each division earned a bye through the qualification round. The next four best teams in each conference had to play a best-of-three series. The Cougars knocked off the St. Michael's Buzzers, which qualified on the final day of the regular season, in three games.

That seeded the Cougars sixth in the South/East Conference and matched them up against No. 3 Kingston, which went 34-11-5 during the 50-game schedule.

Kingston was the overwhelming favourite to advance and made its presence felt with a 7-2 victory over Cobourg in the series opener. The Cougars won Game 2 by a 4-1 decision but ...
