Welcome to our 15th edition of the Cougars News Wire ...
Anyone who attended the Wellington Duke Dome the other night may agree that it was nothing short of a play-off game. First time I have ever seen a ref give only one Power Play to the visiting team! The Dukes only goal tied up the game with 29 seconds left in the third. The Cougars loss in the shoot-out.
The Shootout loss resulted in the Cougars and the Dukes with 3 points each out of the two games they have played.
The Cougars virtually repeated this play on Sunday afternoon scoring against Whitby with 20 seconds left in the third for a 2-1 win!
The Cougars are back in third place today tied with Peterborough, just one point from second place Kingston!

Cobourg youth recognized with Duke of Edinburgh Awards
COBOURG -- Four Cobourg youths have been rewarded for their hard work and accomplishments with a Duke of Edinburgh Award at a recent ceremony.
The awards, handed out on Saturday, Nov. 27 by Free the Children co-founder Marc Kielbruger at Holy Name of Mary College School in Mississauga, focus on four key areas: community service, skill development, physical fitness and adventurous journey.
This year four Cobourg teens were honoured for their commitment to the four categories, including St. Mary's Secondary School students Shaun Dwyer, Candice Visser and Katelynn Heasman and Trinity College School student Cameron Pollard.

IN THE NEWS Cougars rally to gun down Dukes after squandering four-goal leadSportsBy JEFF GARD, NORTHUMBERLAND TODAYCOBOURG -- A 6-5 overtime victory by the Cobourg Cougars on Monday night snapped a 10-game winning streak by the Ontario Junior A Hockey League East Division leading Wellington Dukes. Wellington, now 23-3-4, hadn't lost since Nov. 7. So even when the Dukes trailed the Cougars 4-0 early in the second period, they didn't go down without a fight. "Doesn't matter what the score is, they always play the same," said Cobourg's James Diminie, who had three points, including an assist on the game-winning goal by defenceman Cody Mintz 45 seconds into the extra frame. "We didn't expect them to just die down. We expected them to come back, so it's good that we dug deep and fought back too." Diminie opened the scoring for the Cougars, which took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission after Dylon McMahon tallied a goal as well. COBOURG -- The Cobourg Cougars needed some late game heroics to upset the first place Wellington Dukes in overtime. On Dec. 6 at Cobourg Memorial Arena, the Cougars built a 4-0 lead over the Dukes. However, the Cougars allowed the Dukes to score five straight goals to find themselves trailing 5-4 in the third period. After tying the game, the Cougars went on to win in overtime 6-5 and extend their overtime record to 3-0. With the win, the Cougars passed the Peterborough Liftlock Stars who now sit third in the east division in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) standings, and also sit nine points behind the first place Dukes. COBOURG -- Scoring three goals in 14 seconds will no doubt get the attention of the hockey world - even the NHL. News of 10-year-old Brody Fitzgerald's amazing feat has gone international, more specifically to our neighbours to the south. When the Washington Capitals learned of Brody's record, and his love of all things Capitals, with Alexander Ovechkin as his favourite player, the Capitals named Brody its Youth Hockey Player of the Month for November.
