Cougars blast Fury 7-1

A flurry of third-period goals gave the Cobourg Cougars a big win at home Saturday night over the Whitby Fury.

Cobourg was ahead only 2-1 after 40 minutes of play before scoring five times unanswered in the third period for the 7-1 victory over Whitby, which had won its first two games of the Ontario Junior A Hockey League season.

Colbie Andrews scored the final two goals -- and only five seconds apart at that -- late in the game. Connor Armour, of the Cougars' two 16-year-old players, assisted on both goals by Andrews after scoring his first of the campaign three minutes earlier.

Sixteen-year-old defenceman Cody Mintz tallied his first of the year as he opened the scoring in the third minute of the contest. The Cougars have scored first in each of their four games played to start the regular season. Saturday's win was their second in a row to improve their record to 2-2-0.

Also scoring his first goal was Justin Danforth, playing in his first game after missing the first three due to injury. He played some games last season with the Cougars as an affiliated player.
