Lots of "busy" people I've talked with, push meal planning aside thinking they just don't have the time to bother with meal planning. Once you get the hang of it though, you'll see that not only is it quite easy to do, it will also save your family money and make the looming cloud of "What are we having for dinner tonight?" disappear.
With meal planning, you'll always have your ingredients on hand, healthy snack choices in the pantry, ready when needed, and your dinners totally under control.
This newsletter is an introduction to what's new for my readers, members and subscribers as well as information on the Free Meal Planning For Families 101 eCourse I'll be sharing with all of you in the upcoming weeks.
From my kitchen to yours.....

From The Blog
|
Here are some of the blog highlights from last week. If you didn't make it to the blog last week, head on over to see what you've been missing. Don't forget to leave a comment. I love hearing from you!
- Taco Rice with Beans and Corn~Beans and Rice are regular staple in our house and these key ingredients are always found on the weekly menu. Sometimes they are a side dish and sometimes they just make it as the main meal. That's why I love the fact that these three key ingredients work so well together.
- Weekly Menu Plan, Grocery List and Recipes~Are you interested in a more organized way to meal plan and grocery shop? Maybe you would like to be able to customize your grocery lists and add more nutrition or see how many calories are on your weekly menus.
- Just In Time! Family Meal Planning Challenge!~ Just In Time! was inspired by rummaging through some old cookbooks, new cookbooks and some of my favorite family recipes. I had already been brainstorming on the idea of a challenge that helped to inspire us to meal plan.
- Homemade Cleaning Recipes From The Pantry~Homemade cleaners can smell better, work just as well, cut down on packaging, and save you money. Lastly, this is a very simple green step you can take at home, yet the rewards are huge - cleaner indoor air quality and a healthy, happy family.

Noel's Family Meals December Holiday Fun Special New Feature-Printable Grocery List and Meal Plans!
I'm excited to finally be able to introduce a new feature on Noel's Kitchen Tips. I've added the meal planning service with tools on Say Mmm to help you keep track of the meals we plan, organize your favorite recipes and shop easily for groceries.
There's many useful tools to help busy families like you, including the printable grocery list feature that is absolutely FREE!
You'll be able to find a printable grocery list next to each recipe my Recipe Index. You'll notice that when you click on " " beside the recipe you like you'll pop open the grocery list for the recipe along with the area the grocery item is located, nutritional information, calories and more. You'll also be able to either edit the grocery list or print it off. Even better, the fun doesn't end there because once you have one recipe added you can keep adding recipes to it. When you are done, you simply print the full list off and away you go to the grocery store. You even have the option to play around with the format or save your list for another time. However if you do want to save your list you will need an account, otherwise you don't. It's so easy to use and I'm thrilled to offer this menu planning feature to my readers.
And Remember, the original menu will always be available in the Tools and Resources option in your Premium Family Meals Tools section of your Member Dashboard to refer back to. You'll also find the most recent information and updates on the Home page under Noel's Family Meals. If you're not already a Premium Family Meal Member, you can find out how to join HERE.
Thanks for being a member of Noel's Family Meals!

Family Time
| Quality Time Spending just a few minutes chatting with your child each day can make a difference in their disposition and in your relationship. Enhance the Quality of the Time You Spend.
There are three kinds of time you can spend with your kids:
- One-on-one time: Just you and your child talking, shopping, cooking, going to the playground or the park, watching TV, reading aloud, or playing a game
- Family time: The whole family eating a meal, cleaning the house or car, hiking, making plans, reading aloud, cooking, going to a movie, or playing a game
- Community time: Family, or you and your child, attending neighborhood or sports events.

Imagine an easy breakfast bread that tastes like cinnamon rolls. It is delicious warm and doesn't need butter. The bread can be assembled the night before, then left to rise in the refrigerator overnight.
Cinnamon Swirl Bread
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 Tablespoons butter
- 4 1/2 Tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 3 cups bread flour or all-purpose flour
- 1 Tablespoon bread machine yeast
- 2 Tablespoons very soft butter
- 6 Tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 6 Tablespoons raisins (optional)
- 4 Tablespoons chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Directions:
- Put first six ingredients in bread pan in order listed. Set bread machine to dough cycle. Press Start.
- Remove butter from refrigerator to soften it. Mix brown sugar and cinnamon together. Butter a 9 1/2 inch loaf pan.
- Remove dough from bread machine and punch down. Let it rest for 5 minutes.
- Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to form a rectangle about 8 inches wide and about 16 inches long. Spread the butter with a silicone basting brush, then sprinkle the brown sugar mixture over the surface of the dough. Roll it into a fat 8-inch-long cylinder.
- Loosely cover and put in a warm place to rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake the loaf until the top is golden and a skewer inserted in the bread comes out clean, 20 to 30 minutes.
- Remove the bread from the pan and put it on a wire rack. Let it cool at least 30 minutes so the hot sugar does not burn you.
Noel's Notes: The bread can be assembled the night before, then left to rise in the refrigerator overnight.
Variations: Raisins, Chopped Nuts or Diced Fruit can be added after the first kneading or when beep sounds ( first resting period of dough cycle.) Drizzle warm cream cheese frosting over the top for an extra special taste.
Makes: 1 1/2 pound loaf
Cooking Time: 25 to 30 minutes
Prep Time: 1 hour 30 minutes dough cycle (includes first rising time); 1 hour second rising time or overnight in refrigerator.
Total Cooking Time: 2 hours, 30 minutes
Meal Type: Breakfast, Brunch

FREE Meal Planning For Families 101 eCourse
|
This week we're taking a baby step toward learning to Meal Plan. Specifically, it will help you learn what you and your family are eating. After all, knowing what you ARE eating is an important step toward planning what you WANT to be eating.
Lesson One: Track What You Serve and Make Notes
First, you'll need to print out the Blank Meal Plan in this newsletter. All are in PDF format which means you need to have Adobe Acrobat to see it. If you don't have Adobe click here to download it - it's fast and free.
The Blank Meal Plan comes in two sizes:
- Letter paper size, which prints Mon-Fri on one page and Sat. and Sun on another. You can either cut the left margin off the weekend sheet and tape them together, or leave it as is and enjoy the extra margin space for any weekend reminders. You'll find this version online here.
- Legal paper size, which prints all seven days on one page. I find this the most convenient but not everyone has legal-sized paper on hand. You'll find this version online here.
Now that you've got a copy of the Blank Meal Plan, all I'd like you to do is keep track of what you serve your family (and their reactions to it) each day this week. This is not as easy as planning ahead but it's well worth it to give you a starting place for next week.
If you get take out or go to a restaurant, make a note of that in the appropriate space as well. As a money-saving note, go ahead and briefly write down why you didn't eat at home and what the meal's cost was. Over the weeks, this can be quite eye-opening.
The idea here is that you will have a meal plan to refer to next week and you'll also be able to visually see who's eating what. So, after each meal and snack (or at the end of each day), jot down what you served; what you put on the table or highchair, and any notes for next time. If someone didn't eat something, make a note of that, if you'd have liked less sauce etc., make a note of that. These notes will all serve as reminders to you the next times you are planning meals.
Learning to plan meals will have great rewards for you and your family - both financially and healthfully! Go ahead, grab a pen, start your notes and get ready to enjoy a happier, more relaxed and healthier you!
********************************************************************** **********************************************************************
P.S. For those of you who are disappointed that Lesson One wasn't about actually creating a meal plan this week - please be patient - there's a method to my madness. After all, if it was that easy, you'd already be Meal Planning right? Just take this step-by-step and you'll create a habit you can keep. Each week, we'll tackle another lesson in meal planning so stay tuned.
Feel free to send me an email at noelskitchen@gmail.com and let me know how it's going or if you have any questions.
