January 2012

Dear :

Becky WestThe Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM) leaps into 2012 with enthusiasm, ready to work and tackle challenges head on. We are excited to announce that with the new year, we have a new location. As of February 1, you will find the Women's Foundation office in One Commerce Square, 40 S. Main Street, Suite 2380. This relocation signals a season of growth and expanded possibilities that position us to continue as a leader of social change in our community.

Women's leadership, a pillar of WFGM's mission, is demonstrated by our Legends Award Honorees and 2012 Annual Tribute Luncheon and Symposium Leadership Roundtable. We reaffirm our commitment to poverty reduction by remaining focused on strengthening Memphis and helping to shape it into a first-tier city. Thank you for your partnership and your loyal support, which drive our success and enable us to impact 15,875 women and children each year. To provide more information about WFGM's impact and offer inspiration from the powerful voices of all walks of life represented by WFGM, we are pleased to share our 2011 annual report.

LEADERSHIP

 LegendsAward

Nominations for our 2012 Legends Award are now being accepted.

WFGM created the Legends Award to elevate women's leadership by honoring women whose work embodies the mission of the Foundation. We invite you to nominate a woman whose service and accomplishments have made an impact on the Memphis community.

2012 Leadership Roundtable

The Annual Tribute Luncheon and Symposium assembles over 1,600 attendees engaged by keynote speakers in an atmosphere of passion, exhilaration and power as we celebrate "A Legacy of Philanthropy" to Memphis and Shelby County. The Leadership Roundtable Co-Chairs lead these events by bringing strategic leadership to their committees who galvanize volunteers and WFGM staff to successfully hold several events during the Annual Tribute Luncheon and Symposium in April.

PHILANTHROPY

KrogerGiftCardThank you to our friends who are consistently using their Kroger gift cards to purchase groceries, gas and pharmacy items. In the two months since we launched theWFGM Kroger Gift Card Give Back Program program, your purchase power has granted over $1,000 to WFGM. This continuous circle of giving helps to support 31 programs serving 15,875 women and children in the Memphis community.

According to Lori B., "Using the Kroger card is an easy way to support the Women's Foundation. There's really no extra effort and I am glad to give back to an organization that gives so much."

Kate L., says "Supporting the Women's Foundation through the Kroger card is a no-brainer. I just keep money on the gift card and use that for the groceries each month. I love being able to contribute in a consistent and easy way to an organization that does so much for Memphis."

Adds Suzanne A., "I love, love, love using my WFGM Kroger Gift Card. Every time I spend a dollar, it makes me feel good that WFGM gets some of that money."

It is the collective power of all of us using the WFGM Kroger Gift Card that makes it worthwhile. Please consider your decision when making purchases at Kroger. Instead of paying by cash or credit card, load the dollars onto your WFGM Kroger gift card and use it for purchases.

We salute the WFGM Kroger Gift Card Give Back Program participants ...

GRANTEE AND COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

Meritan, Inc.

Meritan

Meritan provides programs for people of all ages, with a focus on services for seniors and those with disabilities. Meritan's Senior Community Service Employment Program helps reduce financial hardships for senior citizens by providing opportunities to earn minimum wage while building credit towards Social Security. The organization gives back to the community in a way that is beneficial to all involved by offering subsidized placements through non-profit agencies. The Women's Foundation has funded the Senior Employment Program since 2008, helping seniors like Katherine McDaniel find meaningful work after retirement.

Katherine shares her success story, "After being forced into retirement by corporate America, and struggling as an entrepreneur, my goal in life was to become a career volunteer. Needless to say, this career choice, while satisfying, did not offer any monetary benefits. I watched as my resources melted away. What a happy day when a friend recommended Meritan. My placement with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) allowed me to refresh my administrative skills while learning new skills in areas where I had no experience."
