Women's Foundation Hosts a National Conversation about Family Economic Security and Memphis HOPE
Dear :
The excitement of the Memphis HOPE Learning Tour can still be felt throughout the city from the events hosted by the Women's Foundation on September 21 and 22. Through our leadership, we assembled over 350 people - funders, elected officials, government agencies, and non-profit organizations - representing diverse sectors of the community. This dynamic group of individuals joined in a national conversation about the health and wellbeing of the city, as well as the power of women's leadership to frame the conversation around opportunities for innovative strategies. This engagement clearly demonstrates the power of partnerships and collaborations in support of our work to find real solutions for low-income families. Thank you to all who participated.
It was an honor and a pleasure to share our work with our local partners and national foundations, led by Executive Director Anne Mosle and the Ascend Family Economic Security Program at the Aspen Institute. The theme of the Learning Tour, "I Am Memphis HOPE," resonates in a powerful video presentation. Please take a moment to be inspired by the personal perspectives of our Memphis HOPE families.

Women's Foundation Announces 2011-2012 Grantee Partners
Leveraging our resources for greater impact, the Women's Foundation for a Greater Memphis (WFGM) partners with non- profit agencies who provide direct services that equip women and families to reach economic independence. Our unique model of effectively allocating funding is the cornerstone of our philanthropic investment in the Memphis community. Since 1996, the Women's Foundation has awarded $5.8 million dollars to 362 programs. Through our support to the community we impact the lives of 15,875 individuals each year. We are pleased to announce 2011-2012 investment of $600,000 in the areas of grant- making, research and advocacy. |
To commemorate this success, WFGM will host its 2011 Annual Grants Showcase and Volunteer Appreciation at Hilton Memphis (939 Ridge Lake Blvd.) on Monday, October 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This dynamic event celebrates the Women's Foundation's impact on social change through philanthropy, grant-making, leadership, research, advocacy and community initiatives.

GRANTEE AND COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
Advance Memphis Brings Hope to South Memphis
Advance Memphis was formed in 1999 to help bring economic self-sufficiency to the people in the Cleaborn/Foote Homes public housing development in South Memphis. Located in the heart of the current HOPE VI Cleaborn Homes revitalization project, Executive Director Steve Nash and the Advance Memphis team are a Memphis HOPE community partner providing vital training and support to all residents of the 38126 area, the third poorest zip code in the nation.
From the beginning, Steve says that Advance's programs have been founded on relationships. Through personal relationships with their friends in the neighborhood, Advance seeks to bring the hope, knowledge, resources and skills that can help individuals overcome roadblocks and move towards financial independence.
In 2011, 115 Jobs for Life graduates have gone to work, with an average of 70 employed every day through Advance Memphis Staffing. Over 100 additional students will graduate from Jobs for Life by the end of the year, and 10 graduates have already received their GEDs. Advance's economic impact is estimated to be $9.60 for every dollar invested in the non-profit. (Younger Associates)
