WFGM, Reaching Out

October 2010

Becky Jones West - Taking the Helm as New Chair of the Board
Becky WestDear Foundation Friends,
I am truly honored to serve as the new Board Chair for the Women's Foundation. As we women know, leadership is built on the support and success of those before us. On that note, I would like to recognize Anita Vaughn, our past Board Chair. Highlights of Anita's leadership skills include guiding a remarkable Tribute Luncheon, aiding in the ever blossoming HOPE VI public housing revitalization, hosting several successful phon-a-thons and using her initiative to complete the WFGM strategic plan. Anita, the Foundation thanks you for your exemplary leadership - you have raised the bar high.

As I look to the future of the Women's Foundation, I see its home in Memphis but with a heart that serves women nationally and internationally. Ever since the Foundation was created 15 years ago, the women leaders at the helm have a legacy of moving the mission and work forward to greater grant-making, more leadership in improving the lives of women and children, and growing the Foundation's impact. With the committed and brilliant team of board members and staff, I hope to help the Foundation make quantum leaps in fundraising with greater outreach, an increased presence with
strategic marketing and an expanded role with the Women's Economic Security Campaign. Together with the support of our stellar Board, our exceptional Foundation staff, and of course, all our friends, donors and volunteers, I know the Foundation's best years are in front of us. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to lead and thank you for your support.

October Highlights
October marks a month of focus on two important issues close to the heart of the Women's Foundation - domestic violence and world poverty. Domestic Violence Awareness Month was created by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence in October 1981 to connect people working to end violence against women and their children. To find local resources providing valuable programs and services for women and children who are victims of domestic crimes, visit http://erasedomesticcrime.com. World Poverty Day, October 17, focuses on the plight of children and families living in poverty. Learn more.
