Greetings! 
Last month I travelled to London and Northeast Sicily. The former was go-go-go with lots of shows, museums, restaurants and up and down Tube steps. The latter was completely laid back. My daughter and I only saw two tourist attractions; the rest of the time, we read, slept, lay on the beach or by the pool, and challenged a British couple to games of cards. The amazing thing we noticed was that the Italians, who constituted most of the guests, were tanned as brown as berries and smoked constantly. Apparently they didn't get the memo. Of course they seemed healthy and relaxed, unlike us, who had to force ourselves to jump off the fast track for a week. It would be interesting to compare our longevity statistics but I'm afraid to do so. Announcement: Medicare Open Enrollment Period
|
Open enrollment for 2012 Part D drug plans and Medicare Advantage Plans this year runs from October 15 to December 7, with new plans to take effect January 1, 2012. For Medicare Supplement plans, some carriers are allowing an ongoing open enrollment if you switch to a plan of equal or lesser value. Please contact our office if you wish to consider any changes to your coverage.

What Would Lynn Do?

Q: I'm leaving for a 3 month trip to Europe and may take a side trip to a couple of Middle Eastern countries. My travel agent has sold me trip cancellation insurance. What else can I do?
A: You could:
- Ask your travel agent for a rider to cover medical problems that might come up.
-
Make sure that your health plan covers emergencies abroad.

Get your travel immunizations and let it go at that.
- Do nothing. Health care is inexpensive everywhere but here.
- None of the above.
None of the above.
You need a specialized travel accident policy which is comprehensive and inexpensive. Do get the immunizations and make sure you have visas to all countries you may visit. An overall travel plan will provide medical referrals, transportation, translation, case management, medical reunion with families and in case of the worst, repatriation of mortal remains. The cost for a couple in their 40's for a 3 month plan with a $500 deductible and a $250,000 maximum would cost $410 for the full trip.
