Countdown to the Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act
|
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into
law by George H.W. Bush on July 26, 1990. This landmark civil rights legislation prohibits discrimination, and
removes "barriers to employment, transportation, public accommodations, public
services, and telecommunications" (http://www.ada.gov/qandaeng.htm). Be a part of the countdown to the anniversary by adding your
own comments to the Disability.gov blog series "Countdown to the ADA." This series provides historical context and contemporary civil rights discussions surrounding the ADA. Additionally, many federal agencies, communities, and nonprofit groups are planning events to celebrate the anniversary; visit Disability.gov and add your own events to the 20th anniversary page.
