Ropes Course Prepares Prefects for New School Year

The day before they welcomed new students to Idyllwild Arts, 28 student leaders, or prefects, were swinging from a rope, crossing a wire bridge 30 feet in the air, and learning how to become a human "monster" as part of their teambuilding exercises.

"It's full of emotion," added Mikael Holm.
"And that's the artistry," said Cemiyon Barber, after a pause. "Bringing the emotion into your movements."

Charting a New Course

 Idyllwild Arts Academy's new World Literature and College Composition class is the latest chapter in the Academy's story of uniting intense artistic training with serious academic concerns. At Idyllwild, we think the best art cannot be created by narrow, one-dimensional men and women-by painters who know only painting or by musicians who know only music. Class of '89, Music (French horn) With a multifaceted career as a classical and jazz French hornist, pop-folk musician, and sought-after sound engineer, Heidi Trefethen shuttles back and forth across continents frequently, in roles both onstage and off. As a horn player, she has performed in numerous ensembles and venues in Italy, the UK, and the United States, including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the JazzUp Festival in Viterbo, Italy, and the Community Women's Orchestra in the San Francisco Bay Area.
