Idyllwild Arts has created new "shut-down" protocols for vacation periods: all classroom and dormitory thermostats set to 60 degrees; 95% of all "barn" lights turned off; Troy practice rooms and area "blacked out;" and dormitory hallway lights turned off.

Poetry Masterclasses

Reading Friday, March 9, 7:30pm, Fireside rm. The Dominican-American Alba Cruz-Hacker is a poet, writer, teacher and translator. The author of No Honey for Wild Beasts, her work has been published in the U.S., Canada and the Caribbean. A Pushcart Prize nominee, she was the recipient of the 2007 UCR Poet Laureate award, 2007 Tomas Rivera selection in poetry and 2010 Poets & Writers' Reading/Workshop grant for her work with underserved populations. She has taught at University of California Riverside, the UCR Palm Desert Graduate Center, and at the Richard Hugo House in Seattle.

Last week, Creative Writers Scarlett McCarthy, Maria Alvarado-Velasquez, and Becky Hirsch went to Chicago with Kim Henderson and Katherine Factor to attend the AWP (Association of Writers and Writing Programs) conference and book fair. AWP hosts one of the biggest writers' conferences in the country

"Initially, my Dad and brother showed me a few key riffs and chords to play, and that helped me start to learn."Before coming to Idyllwild Arts Academy at the beginning of his junior year, Lake played with the Pacific Crest Orchestra directed by Thara Memory.
