Keep Spring Cleaning Safe Safely dispose of old paint, pesticides, motor oil, batteries and other household hazardous wastes any day but Sunday.
Wake County accepts these materials at its South Wake collection site at 6130 Old Smithfield Road just outside town. It's beside the multi-material recycling facility.
The household hazardous waste collection site is open Monday through Saturday from 8 am until 4 pm. Last summer, Wake County expanded its collection program to six days a week from twice monthly.
The purpose was to make it more convenient for you to dispose of household hazardous wastes in a safe and environmentally-friendly way. Wake County has a second drop-off location in the northern part of the county at 9037 Deponie Drive in Raleigh. Call 919.856.7400 for more information. >>Click here for details |

Care and Feeding of Lawns Be storm water wise with lawn care. Whenever possible, plant drought tolerant, native species in your yard and please do not over-fertilize your lawn.
The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services offers free soil testing services for residents. Test results can help you avoid overfeeding your lawn and thus lessen the amount of fertilizer in storm water runoff. This in turn helps protect our lakes, rivers and streams.
Pick up a free soil testing kit at Town Hall in our Engineering Department. We're at 128 S. Main St.
