From the Pastor
Last June, I saw the movie Toy Story 3 with a bunch of our youth. In the movie, Andy is leaving his toys and going away to college. All the high-school youth in the theatre were conscious that they, too, would soon be heading "back-to" -- either a familiar high school or the new challenges of college.
Most of us may not be headed "back-to" school, but we are facing an opportunity to help our nation get "back-to" God and the values we profess. There are many ways to get "back-to". Prayer and voting are the most fundamental.
v Are you registered to vote?
v Do you have Election Day marked on your calendar?
v Are you praying daily for your country?
If you have ANY complaints about this country and cannot answer "YES" to those three questions, America does not need your opinions. She needs you to be an active, thoughtful, Christian voter.

Clergy Corner
For My Yoke is Easy, and My Burden Light
By Father Tom Lam, September 2010
I don't know about you, but every time I hear the Gospel reading that promises us that His yoke is easy and His burden light, I find myself a little skeptical. Don't get me wrong, I believe Jesus when he says this. I'm just not sure if I know what he means, because from my experience, when I'm in trouble or when I've witnessed illness in others, the burden neither seems easy or light. The truth is, in order to experience this easy yoke that Jesus promises, we have to first do something. The best example I have is a common experience that I suspect many of you also have undertaken-the team-building exercise of dividing into small groups of, say, ten individuals, and each person taking a turn falling backwards and letting the rest of the team catch you and lower you to safety. Touching Lives
Two Events at a Time
POP's Gala Evening (Oct. 22, 2010) and Golf Classic (Oct. 25, 2010) fundraising events are lifelines to helping those in need through the Outreach Ministry
Each October, parishioners and friends of Prince of Peace gather together at the Gala Evening and Golf Classic events for a little fun, food, fellowship, and for golfers, a great round of golf. A good time is always had by all, but the best part is knowing that you are helping tens of thousands of people in our community who are in need of a little assistance, or a lot of help in many cases.
The Gala Evening (Friday, Oct. 22) and Golf Classic (Monday, Oct. 25) are the two fundraisers that provide the most financial assistance to POP's Outreach Ministry, with 100% of the profit going directly to its programs and services.
Last year alone, the events raised over $120,000 through ticket sales, sponsorships, live and silent auctions, and golfers playing in the tournament. Many lives have been touched through the generosity of those who support these events each year.
Here's a little more about these events and how you can get involved to make a difference in the lives of the needy who come to our doorsteps looking for help. We hope you will join us! Read more... |
We're Called to Serve & Grow, to be Christ's hands!
Join us Sept. 11 & 12, in POP's Community Center after all the Masses for the "Called to Grow" event. Christ is calling you!
Prince of Peace once again invites you to join our parish family at the "Called to Grow" event, Sept. 11 & 12, in the Community Center after all the Masses.
As with the "Called to Serve" event that took place last month, which was a tremendous success, you and your family and friends have the opportunity to learn more about POP's ministries and what they have to offer for spiritual growth opportunities.
All the groups and organizations that are part of our Outreach, Worship, Community Life, Pastoral Care, Spanish-Language, Faith Formation, and Youth ministries will be available.
To learn more about POP's growth opportunities, including prayer groups, study groups, retreats, socially-minded groups, and many different organizations (including those whose primary purpose is service), go to the link below:

HOPE
POP's mission trip brings hope to our brothers & sisters in Christ in Guatemala
By Deacon Al Prescott, September 2010
What a way to start out our trip to Prince of Peace's sister parish in Santa Cruz, Guatemala. With the threat of a volcano erupting again and torrential rains, our hearts were full of anxiety. I had visions of mudslides and rain-filled rivers.
After supper that first night, we spent a few hours praying and sharing with each other. While we were in prayer, we listened to music and heard,
"Do not be afraid; I am with you. I have called you each by name."
I knew at this time that all 23 of us gave our fears over to God. There was nothing that was going to stop our mission of bringing hope to our sisters and brothers in Quiche. The next day, Sunday's Mass was a most powerful experience. ________________________________________
