The Festival of Liturgical Arts of the Western Reserve (FLAWR) is a five-day synthesis of worship, workshops, discussions and masterclasses for musicians and clergy devoted to the continual development of their craft.  FLAWR was created to bring together preachers, teachers, musicians, and artists to share their unique gifts in the creation of liturgies that reflect the beauty and splendor of God.

Worship at FLAWR will feature a wide variety of liturgical expressions ranging from traditional Anglican Morning Prayer to Jazz Vespers.  Workshops, lectures, and masterclasses are offered to provide small group sessions focused on specific topics. Our NCD Parishes ARE Growing!

Here's some news: all three of the congregations in our diocese that are now on their third Natural Church Development (NCD) profile are increasing in average Sunday attendance.

Natural Church Development is careful when it speaks of results congregations can expect from engaging the NCD process.  What they say about growth is that "churches that have completed three or more profiles have seen their growth rate increased by 51%.

On average within the 31 months between the first and third profiles." Not only is that our experience, but in fact our three parishes now on their third surveys have turned negative growth rates into positive ones over that period.

Congratulations to the three parishes and their rectors: New Life, Uniontown, Pat Hanen; St. Paul, Canton, Barbara Bond; and St. Thomas, Berea, Gayle Catinella. Call any of them and ask them if they think NCD has been worth the time and energy!

If you want to know more about NCD for your parish, call or email Brad any time.

CCFC Now Offers Five Different Grants for Congregations and Individuals

The CCFC (Congregations and Christian Formation Commission) now has five grants available to congregations:

1)      Ministry and Growth Grants (formerly known as Mission Enhancement Grants) - These are grants of up to $4,000 in the first year (declining over a possible two more years) to enable parishes to respond to ministry and parish growth opportunities beyond their own means to fund. These grants can be applied for anytime but once the money runs out for the year, it's gone.

2)      Christian Formation Grants - Grants for up to $1,000 per year for up to three years to enable parishes to offer to members adult Christian formation opportunities beyond its own means to fund. Again, there is no deadline to apply for these, but when the money's gone it's gone.

3)      College Work Grants - Grants to congregations to help  develop ministry to college students at nearby campuses. These are awarded annually, the deadline for the 2011 grant cycle is May 3, 2010.

4)      Aid for Operating Expenses Grants - An operating expenses grant for parishes with NOI under $100,000 and/or in an official Shared Ministry. (Unfortunately the deadline for application for the 2011 grant cycle has just passed).

5)     Lay Continuing Education Grants - Grants to lay members of the diocese for the purpose of developing skills for ministry with their congregation and for mission to the world. These grants applications are reviewed monthly.

Further details for all five grants, along with applications, are available at www.dohio.org or call our office.

Ohio Episcopal Celebration at Kenyon Power and Truth:Great Moments in the History of God's People
Kenyon

Keynote speaker for the 2010 Ohio Episcopal Celebration at Kenyon (OECAK) is Walter Brueggemann, McPheeters Professor of Old Testament Emeritus at Columbia Theological Seminary and author of over seventy books. Through his writing and speaking he eloquently reaches deep to sharpen our awareness. In his book, "Prayers for a Privileged People" he prays- You God, Lord and Sovereign, you God, lover and partner. You are God of all our possibilities, You preside over all our comings and goings, all our sickness and all our health, all our despair and all our hope, all our living and all our dying. And we are grateful. (p.173) So plan to attend the Ohio Episcopal Celebration as Walter Brueggemann shares his insights.

The conference theme is "Great Moments in the History of Power." Over the course of the three-day conference he will discuss:

1. Truth Speaks to Power: Moses

2. Power Overwhelms Truth: Solomon

3. Truth Has Its Day: Elisha

4. Truth Impacts Power: Josiah

OECAK is an intergenerational conference hosted jointly by the dioceses of Ohio and Southern Ohio, with support from Bexley Hall Seminary. The conference will take place Thursday evening, June 24 through Sunday, June 27 on the campus of Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio. Special programs for children and youth will be available.
