detail of "August Air"
In the ungrazed Flint Hills, Tall Bluestem, Switchgrass and Indian Grass grow to seven feet in height. Their presence is a sign of healthy and recovering Native grassland. In August they suddenly bolt toward the sun to blossom. Taller than a person can reach, they turn from blues and greens to deep oranges, rusts and pale yellow ochre.
In the sky, cool northern and wet southern air masses mix to form towers of liquid energy. The clouds rise with heat, push against each other, and rain down lightning and cold bursts of wind.
Walking though the hills before the storm, you will hear and smell the sizzle of the grass.

|New Commission, Custom Order Your Own!|
We proudly announce the completion of a new painting, commissioned by a former Wichita, Kansas resident. She will soon display a piece of the prairie in her Washington D.C. home. This reminder of the wide-open spaces of her youth will grace her walls for years to come.
You too can custom-design a painting to fit your ideas, memories, and lifestyle. Please contact Matthew for more information.
