Family Cattle DriveCattle Drive

"We're going to do WHAT???" That was the question we all asked as we looked at Darrin over dinner. He had just told everyone that we were going to move a herd of cattle, on foot, three miles through (rural) residential areas on the paved road. And so we did!

Darrin's family was visitng and FOUR GENERATIONS took part in the drive. Earlier that day, Darrin and the two gentlemen that work for us in the winter had strung yard upon yard of temporary fencing to keep the cattle out of people's yards along the one lane road. Darrin's mother drove the van with his 95 year old grandmother and they dropped people off at their respective spots to guard. Then as the cattle passed, each person would fall in behind or flank to the side to keep the cows cohesive and moving. The van followed along at the rear to further deter the cattle from turning back and to pick up any human stragglers.

EVERYONE went, including Miss Tina our neat-as-a-pin Customer Service person, as well as Darrin's sister and her two children. We went along a level road for a bit - then up and over a big Tennessee hill on gravel switchbacks. The cattle were fairly cooperative and the drive was accomplished in 1 hour and 15 minutes.
IMPORTANT Web Site Update
By April 15th we should have a BRAND NEW web site and SHOPPING CART up and going. We hope you will find it to be an improvement!

The downside is that in order to load the new shopping cart, we had to lose all of the customer data. This means you will have to log in and create a new account. We apologize for this aggravation, but feel it will be well worth it to use and navigate an easier shopping c
art.

SEASONING BACON
Cured, sliced bacon in 1 pound packages. This bacon is not as lean as our regular bacon, making it great for seasoning. It will not have the rind on it. We DO eat this as "regular" bacon in our household. It just isn't as lean as what we usually sell. Price $5.59/pound or $5.29/pound for 25 pounds or more ("regular" bacon is $6.99/pound).
Shanel & Kids Baby Goats Everywhere!

In only 12 days we've had over 40 goat babies! Only one doe is remaining to kid. All the babies are outside now and very happy for sunshine. This is one of my favorite does, Shanel, with her two twins.

Spring!

By the end of this week we should approach 80 degrees with sunshine! I am so happy! It's time to think about turning the garden and I need to make sure I enroll in the Delvin Farm Vegetable CSA. If you haven't looked into this, you really should. It offers both high quality and an excellent value.

Their CSA makes cooking so much easier for me--no need to whine, "What do I cook for dinner???" Just look in the box and go from there!
Blessings,
Jenny
