Racers from club amateurs to pro veterans will describe a quick lap of Mosport as downright scary.  Drive the track sometime if you don’t believe it.
Here are words from legendary Corvette Racing team driver Johnny O’Connell.

Keep in mind the 2.46 mile Mosport circuit is virtually the same as when the legendary Can Am and Formula One series raced there in the mid - ‘60s.

1. 33rd Canadian Historic Grand Prix at Mosport

The Corvette was the featured marque for the 33rd Canadian Historic Grand Prix on June 15-17, 2012.  Races were run under the auspices of VARAC and race organizer Bob DeShane.   In many respects it was a trip back in time.  There were just 5 race groups revealing a wider variety of machinery vs 10 or 12 more specialized race groups typical of today.  Adding to the show was an all Corvette group paced by Canadian Eppie Wietzes who won the Trans Am Championship in 1981 in a Corvette.   (Test your Corvette race car IQ at the bottom of the page).  Wilson-Niblett Chevrolet stepped up to sponsor the CHGP under performance division director Brian Hay.  Laid back hospitality and friendship prevailed all weekend.

ACTION PHOTO GALLERY -  Pro photographers John Walker, Richard Coburn, Joe Cali, Hugh Hawley, John Avery and others were on hand.  Vintage Motorsport magazine will be featuring an unusual 1955 Corvette driven by Bill Schwacke as “Pick O’ the Litter” in a forthcoming issue.  It was truly Bill’s day finishing fifth overall in his race group.

Racers deterred by “crossing the border” might want to reconsider an event like this next time
around.

2. National Corvette Museum Historic SCCA GT1 Corvette Race Car

Remarkably another distinctive Corvette race car made an appearance at the CHGP.   Just refurbished and on track was a highly developed SCCA GT1 Corvette race car that was donated to the National Corvette Museum where it has been displayed since 1994.  Doug Bethke won the hotly contested runoffs at Road Atlanta, back-to-back in 1981 and 1982.  The NCM is raising funds for appearances and rides at other circuits.  Your support is most welcome.  Please click this link to join the team to receive more information.  There is no obligation at this time.

3. Rolex Grand-Am Series Detroit Grand Prix video action at Belle Isle

Facebook pal Roy Oberg brought his video artistry to the Rolex Grand-Am pro racing series at the Detroit Grand Prix at Belle Isle on June 1 -2, 2012. Corvette regulars Eric Curran and Boris Said piloted the Whelen # 31 Corvette in the GT class.  The Sun Trust # 10, Action Express # 5 & # 9, (finished one-two), Spirit of Daytona # 90 and Gainsco/Stallings # 99 teams were impressive in their new Corvette styled Daytona Prototype class cars.  “Detroit Breakdown” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G4CMnpddWg&feature=share
