CALEA Commissioner Retirements, Appointment and Reappointments
Annually the Executive Directors of CALEA's four founding associations meet to vote on Commissioner appointments or reappointments, as necessary. The founding associations include the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP); National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE); National Sheriffs' Association (NSA); and the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF).
This year, CALEA will have two Commissioners to retire. The retiring Commissioners are Robert Greenlaw, Director of Delaware County (OH) Emergency Communications and Joseph M. Polisar, former Chief of Police of the Garden Grove (CA) Police Department. These Commissioners will be honored for their service during the CALEA Fall Conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado (see below for additional conference informations).
As a result of these retirements, the founding associations have appointed Linda Pillo, Chief of Police of the Bellevue (WA) Police Department, and Julie Righter, Communications Coordinator for the Lincoln (NE) Emergency 911 Communications Center, as new CALEA Commissioners.
Additionally, Theron Bowman, Chief of Police, Arlington (TX) Police Department; Stephen DeBenedittis, Mayor of the City of Herndon, Virginia; J. Grayson Robinson, Sheriff of the Arapahoe County (CO) Sheriff's Department; Curtis Holt, City Manager of Wyoming, Michigan; and Richard Myers, Chief of Police, Colorado Springs (CO) Police Department have been reappointed as CALEA Commissioners.
CALEA Commissioners are appointed for three year terms and each of the appointments and reappointments are effective January 1, 2012.
CALEA thanks the IACP, NSA, NOBLE, and PERF for their continued support and looks forward to leadership of the new and returning Commissioners. |
Congratulations are in order for CALEA Commissioner David T. Moore. He was appointed as Director of Public Safety for Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York on August 8, 2011. Best wishes for a long and successful career.

The new logo incorporates an inverted gold pyramid, and emphasizes the view that broad-based community and client agency constituents reside at the top of the pyramid.
Conversely, CALEA is positioned at the inverse apex, and represents a foundation of support, guidance and stewardship in the constant pursuit of public safety excellence and the gold standard in accreditation. |

CALEA Reaccreditation - The Annual Report
Over the last eighteen months CALEA has implemented several improvements to its organizational structure, client service delivery, and on-site processes to name a few. These new improvements have resulted in several changes to the accreditation reporting process. One significant change is a new Agency Annual Report. This new report can be found on the CALEA website in Forms and Document Section under Clients Tab. Although agencies in INITIAL self-assessment are not required to submit this document, it should be noted this new report is now required for all three years prior to any agency's on-site assessment for reaccreditation. This is a requirement for all programs at all levels, and is now used regardless of the agency's participation in the new Gold Standard Assessment process for reaccreditation.
Accreditation Managers should ensure they understand the submission timelines for the Agency Annual Report. For the first and second years following the accreditation award, agencies must submit the report on the award anniversary date. During the third year, the report should be submitted to CALEA prior to the scheduled on-site assessment. This will allow the report to serve as a communiqué between the agency, CALEA staff and the assessment team on current issues affecting the organization.
In addition to submitting the Agency Annual Report, the agency is responsible for notifying its assigned CALEA Program Manager of any major incident, event or circumstance that may affect its standard (s) compliance and/or the CALEA Accreditation Program. This notice should be provided to your Program Manager as soon as possible following the event and regardless of whether an assessment is occurring that year.
If you discover you need assistance with the completion of the new Agency Annual Report or any of the associated submission timelines, please contact your CALEA Program Manager for assistance. |
