Message to CALEA Client Personnel In early 2010, CALEA Staff began using a new software package called Accreditation Management System (AMS). AMS is a very innovative, intuitive, and robust system that assists CALEA with the management of the accreditation process and provides staff the ability to correspond with client personnel electronically from within the program. The items transmitted include requirements and documentations for upcoming on-site assessments, annual report reminders, and assessor reports and forms. All messages from AMS are sent from the email address of calea@calea.org. Because of the potential that you or someone from your agency will receive messages from us in the future, please check your computer and network settings to ensure that our mail address (also our domain name: @calea.org) is not deleted or filtered into a "junk" or "bulk" folder. If you are unsure of how to view or adjust your email control settings, please contact your network administrator for assistance. Thank you for the continued support of the Commission. |

Program Managers' Corner This is the fifteenth in a series of short articles from your CALEA Program Managers.
Assessments - Introductory Conference Calls
The program manager is the primary contact person between an agency and the Commission. However, once an assessment team is assigned to review an agency for accreditation or recognition, the program manager begins to assume the role of a facilitator, and introduces the team leader as a principal contact concerning the assessment activities. This allows the team leader to establish a professional relationship with the accreditation manager and other agency representatives, for the purpose of conducting a meaningful and effective assessment of the agency. Once the assessment team completes its review process, the program manager reverts to the primary contact for the agency for all matters affecting the agency's involvement in accreditation or recognition programs.
In order to make this transition more seamless, program managers are now beginning to schedule introductory conference calls which include the agency chief executive officer, accreditation manager, program manager, and assigned team leader. These conference calls generally occur just prior to the assessment process beginning and before any mail-off files are sent out by the agency. The objective of this brief introductory conference call is to provide a uniform forum to clarify roles and responsibilities and foster realistic expectations concerning the upcoming assessment. These calls are usually short in duration, but have already proven to be a value-added component within the process. With the advent of greater electronic messaging and fewer days spent at the agency, the introductory conference call has proven to be a good way to "break the ice" and ensure the assessment process begins consistently.
Team leaders and agency personnel should be aware that this change is intended to further enhance effective communications between CALEA and client agencies, and not to detract from the fine job assessors and team leaders have historically done in this regard. Agency critiques of the accreditation process have consistently indicated clients are highly satisfied with the professionalism of CALEA assessors.
Those involved in assessment activities should be aware that while program managers take on a support role during the assessment, they always remain available to assist either the agency or assessment team at any time. The introductory conference call will help foster an even higher level of professionalism and contribute to making the CALEA process even more consistent for everyone involved. |

ATTENTION CALEA ASSESSOR
If you have not completed and sent to CALEA your Conflict of Interest Form, please do so at your earliest convenience. The CALEA Assessor Conflict of Interest Policy was developed by CALEA for all assessors and team leaders. It should be noted a similar policy was developed last year for selected staff and all Commissioners. This new policy provides general guidance on conflict of interest issues and establishes a reporting requirement for active CALEA assessors.
The policy can be found by assessors in the CALEA Assessor Forum (www.calea.org/Online/Assessor/assessors.htm), under the News Section. After reviewing the policy, please complete the Assessor Conflict of Interest Form and return it to Ms. Peg Giglio electronically at pgiglio@calea.org or by U.S. Mail to:
CALEA 10302 Eaton Place, Suite 100 Fairfax, VA 22030 or Fax to: 703.591.2206
As always, the Commission appreciates your service within the accreditation process and looks forward to working with you in the future. If after reviewing the policy you have any questions, please feel free to contact any of the CALEA Program Managers for additional guidance. |
|
ATTENTION CALEA CLIENTS
CALEA has been actively involved in a strategic planning process that has resulted in several new initiatives. These initiatives will likely have direct impacts on future training for assessors and team leaders. Subsequently, the new assessor and team leader training classes have been suspended until the special projects are completed. This will reduce any retraining that may be necessary as a result of the strategic initiatives CALEA is currently undertaking. We anticipate new assessor and team leader training to resume in 2011.
For additional information regarding this issue, please contact CALEA Deputy Director Craig Hartley. |
