I Spy - Is it age appropriate?
I'm a fashion designer by trade. In my first design job, my design director, Betty, told me, "designing is a twenty-four hour job - you never know where your inspiration will come from. You always have to have your antennas out." Betty - you were so right!
As a fashion expert, I am always on the look-out for those dressed well...and....um...not so well dressed folks. Here's a few things on the "what not to wear" radar.
1. Blue nail polish - As I was having my nails done at the salon recently, a senior age woman next to me was choosing blue enamel for her nails. I felt that it wasn't the right color for her age bracket. For summer, a pretty pink or coral is great for all ages. Trendy colors like blue, yellow, green and purple are best for the younger gals.
2. Bikinis- Only trimmed and toned women in bikinis please. A "spare tire" midsection or gut hanging over a bikini bottom is just not attractive. A stylish tankini can slim down and cover up plus give the convenience of a two piece but the coverage and comfort of a one piece swimsuit.
3. Mini skirts and short shorts - If you are fortunate to have shapely legs free of noticable veins or age spots, knee length skirts or Bermuda shorts can still complement your well-turned ankle. Sixty plus women should avoid hot pants or mini skirts as they they are just not the right style for their age bracket. The most flattering length for legs of any age is knee length which never goes out of style.
