L'Shanah Tovah~Happy New Year!

What an amazing start to the new school year we are experiencing!!  The yard is full each morning. Kabbalat  Shabbat in Knell Chapel is nearly standing room only!!  Last Friday evening we joined the Temple Beth Israel of Highland Park and Eagle Rock community for a lively Shabbat experience. We have had two successful Back to School Night presentations and our 73 students are thriving, both in and out of the classrooms.

Tomorrow we will send home to our families the Parent Handbook. Please read through this important document to review significant information that ultimately helps to maximize learning, so that our students can blossom and grow. Children of all ages best succeed when they have the proper rest and ample food.  Sending healthy snacks and dressing your children in closed toed/closed heel shoes enables them to actively play. Walking them cautiously across the parking lot ensures safety, and keeping them home when they are ill helps everyone stay healthy.

We have phenomenal teachers working with our children.  Support them by providing your children with a good place to do homework and help ensure that it is always completed when due.

This year's middah, school-wide theme is "With Hopes and Dreams we Build Our Future." Thank you for partnering with us to make our dreams come true!

Shabbat Shalom/G'mar Tov,

Lisa

Dear Weizmann School Community
REPEAT REQUEST

One of the things we all love about WDS is that this is not just a school, but a family, a community, and therefore I am going to call on you, our community, our family, for help.  We are working to make the WDS middle school science program one the best in the area.  We want our science program to be one of thousands of reasons of why people want to send their students here, and why families keep coming back well into 8th grade, and to that end we are making great strides.  In March, our middle school students will be entering their science fair projects into the LA County Science Fair, the first time that WDS has ever entered such an event.  Now, here is where I am asking for help from our WDS community, our WDS family.  If you, or someone you know is involved in the scientific community in any way, from medical to engineering, from ground to space, from biological, to chemical, or physical, and you think that you or they would be able to and would want to provide an opportunity of learning for our young scientists in middle school, please do not hesitate to contact me.  Whether it be a demonstration, an experiment, a lecture, a talk about science in your life, a field trip, or any other opportunity with someone in and from the science community, what a wonderful experience that would be. We want our student's science experience to go so far beyond the classroom and into the real world where science is alive and relevant in the lives of our students. We want to share our learning community with you, and hope that you want to share yours with us.  If you have any ideas or know someone who could help out, please let me know. My email is amarks@weizmann.net. Thank you!

Kol Tuv,

Mr. Marks
