  • Other Mathematics highlights at FRCS:
    • Elementary students performed in the top 1/3 of schools statewide.
    • Fourth grade students grew at the fastest rate compared to ALL charter schools statewide.
    • High school students scored in the 93rd percentile statewide with 96% of students scoring Advanced or Proficient and continuing our strong annual trend with no failures.
    • High school student performance grew faster than 93% of all schools in the state.

We remain focused on challenging and supporting all students in academic excellence and social and emotional growth.  Our faculty are incredibly dedicated educational professionals and are committed to knowing each individual student, thereby providing him or her an opportunity to shine.  This is especially critical when we bring over 1,200 K-12 students from 24 diverse cities and towns across a nearly 500 square mile regional district into one vibrant school community.

Over the next few weeks, we will share further academic performance levels with our school community, including specific plans we have to prepare all students for academic success.

Have a great weekend!

Mark Logan, Ph.D.

Community Portal Update!

Families will receive user names and passwords to access the FRCS Community Portal in the mail shortly.  On the portal, parents will be able to view attendance, behavior, assignment information (including a multi-subject "due date" calendar, directions, attached documents and assignment grades)!

Thank you to the families that helped us complete a small scale trial run of this new software!  From this trial, families requested that we also include a "real time average" for each course, like a virtual report card updated in real time.  We've worked with the School Brains developers and this feature will be added for students and families in the coming weeks.

Meet Our New Guidance Counselors!

Sarah Spence (Grade 5-7)

Sarah Spence is the new counselor for grades 5-7.  She previously worked for Holyoke Public Schools as the Assistant Director of after-school and out-of-school time programs, which included her overseeing middle school summer programs for 120 students. She graduated in 2010 with a master's degree in school counseling. Before receiving her master's degree, she worked in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania where she ran enrichment programs for middle school students.

She is very excited about her new position at FRCS.   She finds middle school students comprise the most interesting age group to mentor because they are in between young children and adolescents. Every day brings new beginnings for them  -- ones involving rapid personal growth and discovery.   In her spare time, Sarah likes to kayak, hike, ride horses, and spend time with friends and family.

Steve Gianquitti (Grades 8-10)

Steve Gianquitti joins us as the new school counselor primarily responsible for grades 8-10.   Mr. Gianquitti completed his undergraduate program at the University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in Psychology and attended Bridgewater State University for his M. Ed in School Counseling.   While in graduate school, he worked as a college academic counselor for first year and undecided students.   As a school counselor, Mr. Gianquitti is dedicated to supporting student's needs and intends to focus on students' academic, personal/social, and career goals in order to make a difference and enrich the lives of the students with whom he works.   He is excited to continue to develop the school counseling program at FRCS in order to provide quality services to students.

Aside from counseling, Mr. Gianquitti enjoys living a healthy and active lifestyle.  He enjoys weight lifting, running, traveling, and outdoor activities.  Last year, he competed in a half marathon and hopes to complete a full marathon in the near future.  Mr. Gianquitti has also traveled to many countries including England, Italy, France, Greece, Spain, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand and likes to explore and understand new cultures.

Robotics Team

This year, Mr. Lavigne will be launching FRCS' first competitive Robotics Team! A team of eager students will be representing FRCS at the annual Lego League competitions!

The Falcons Robotics Team will have to build AND program an autonomous robot to score points on a themed playing field (Robot Game), developing a solution to a problem they have identified!

This year's challenge remains a secret until competition begins but past challenges have been based on topics such as nanotechnology, climate, quality of life for the handicapped population, and transportation. By designing our Challenges around such topics, participants are exposed to potential career paths within a chosen Challenge topic.

This is an international competition focused on solidifying the STEM principles that naturally come from participating in a robotics program. If you want to learn more or help out with the team check out the website and contact Coach Lavigne!

The FRCS Mock Trial Team will prepare the prosecution and defense litigation for a real life scenario in which there is no clear or easy answers! They will have to persuade a judge and jury to side in their favor in a head to head trial with a competing school!

Students will learn research, analysis, logic and of course, persuasive writing and speaking skills through this fun and engaging competition! To learn more about mock trial or  to help out with the FRCS Mock Trial Teamcontact Coach Hardie!
