Dad's Spotlight:
David Guzman

Anyone who meets David Guzman and his son, little David, will tell you that this father and son have a special bond. David's delight and pride in his boisterous toddler is evident in the way he cares for his growing son. This commitment to be an "involved father" was foster in our programs and specifically for David, when he began our Workshop for New Dads (Taller Para Papas). Like many new dads, David was excited about his baby but did not know how else he could contribute. The workshop became a safe space for David, and many other men, to learn practical skills, share their personal stories and support one another. David's noticeable change has transformed his relationship with wife, Ivonne, and his family and community.

June Is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month!
|

Fruits and vegetables are a great source of many vitamins, minerals and other natural substances that may help protect you from chronic diseases. To get a healthy variety, think vibrant color. Eating fruits and vegetables of different colors gives your body a wide range of valuable nutrients, like fiber, folate, potassium, and vitamins A and C. Some examples include green spinach, orange sweet potatoes, black beans, yellow corn, purple plums, red watermelon, and white onions.
You can also sign-up for a CSA (Community-Supported Agriculture) and buy your fresh fruits and vegetables directly from local farms.

Workshop For New Dads (Taller Para Papas)
10 Year Anniversary
|
Fathers are far more than just 'second adults' in the home. Involved fathers can have a direct impact on the well-being of their children and child outcomes, including cognitive ability, educational achievement, psychological well-being, and social behavior. This month, we celebrate the 10-year Anniversary of MOMS Orange County's Workshop for New Dads Program (Taller Para Papas). In the last 10 years, more than 1,340 fathers have graduated from the Spanish-language program - one of the first of its kind nationwide - with many returning as "veteran" volunteers to support the development of quality fatherhood in our community.

Healthy Beginnings, Bright Futures
|
MOMS Orange County would like to thank our Major Sponsors, Guests, Participants and Honorees for helping make this year's Annual Luncheon a success.
Thank You Sponsors!

We'd also like to thank St. Joseph Hospital, Garden Grove Hospital, CalOptima, ABC-7, Frank & Dottie Andrews, Disneyland Resort and UC Irvine Healthcare for their support of the event.
This year we witnessed the success story of the inspirational Guzman Family and learned how our services helped prepare them for the birth of their healthy son, David. We were reminded of the great work of the County of Orange Health Care Agency's Public Health Nursing Department, and we received scientific evidence from Dr. Marc Lerner that a supportive community can have a lifelong, positive affect on a baby's early brain development.

We hope to see you all again next year at our
20th Anniversary celebration!
