Divine Wholeness

Are you able to guess when Divine Wholeness begins?  Of course...the first step is committing to a consistent yoga practice.  This physical practice of aligning breath with movement activates the body in a way that brings harmony to the body, mind and spirit.

Yoga is the only physical practice that actually heals and rejuvenates the body.  It's the only practice that eliminates toxins from the body during a session.  And it's the only practice that aligns the physical, mental, spiritual all in one class.  It really is the cornerstone of any physical fitness class.

What kind of yoga you ask?  Well that is up to you really.  All paths of yoga lead to the same place - inner awareness, spiritual awakening, enlightenment; call it what you like but all practices follow the same path and philosophies.  In our teacher training program we talk about and compare many styles so I won't do that here.  But just to name a few there is Bikram, Iyengar, Anusara, Vinyasa and Sivananda.  All interpretations of this ancient healing wisdom.

My suggestion is to try them all and see which one resonates with you.  Then allow yourself space to try other styles just to see what you may be missing.

Knowing that postures and movement is only 1/8 of what is meant by yoga, it's important to mention yoga philosophy and its role in Divine Wholeness.  What is written in ancient texts is currently being taught by some world renowned spiritual leaders.  Everyone has their own interpretation but if we examine the words, everything starts with yoga.  Thankfully we have so many teachers interested in this topic.  Everyone is bound to understand it at some point!

Why yoga and not meditation?  Well in my opinion, our society today is so busy, so focused on material and the physical world, that bringing them into a yoga class is a perfect place to start.  Why not?  It can reduce stress, increase flexibility and improve strength.  Asking some students to start off with meditation may seem like a tall order.

Yoga is much more accessible to most individuals - meditation will come naturally with a disciplined practice of yoga.  You can't help but meditate once you begin the practice of yoga.  Moving simulataneously with breath will naturally bring you to a state of meditation.

So there you have it - step one in recognizing Divine Wholeness.  Not sure if you believe me?  I challenge you to go out this week and take a class.  In fact, sign up for a month somewhere.  Commit to a yoga practice for one month - then get back with me.  And I'm not talking about the yoga class at your gym.  Go to a yoga center....not that there is anything wrong with yoga at a facility - a yoga center is just different.  It will be the best investment you you ever make in yourself.

Give it a try - you have nothing to lose.  If anything you may reduce your stress over the holidays.  Have a blessed day!
