One thing I realized this weekend was that all this amazing information has been around forever. Written in the Yoga Sutras are all these same ideas and concepts about life. This is very exciting as a yoga instructor - to understand the true depth of what we are teaching.
On the other hand, our subconscious mind is basically a recorded playback mechanism; it's our habit mind that holds and keeps playing programs that we have acquired over our lifetime. Our conscious mind is instinctual and uses old programming to perceive our experiences. Not only that, but the subconscious mind operates 1 million times faster than the conscious mind.
Are you still with me?
So if 95% of our actions, beliefs, perceptions and behaviors begin in the subconscious mind,
we are operating on old thoughts, beliefs and patterns. We aren't creatively analyzing circumstances - we are just reacting!
We keep doing the same things over and over again without even thinking about it. Do you ever hear yourself say, "
Oh my gosh, I have become my mom or my dad!" The truth is, you have. What about, "
Why does this always happen to me?" Because you are creating it with your brain on auto pilot!
You have acquired behavior patterns and beliefs of those individuals that you spent time with as a child, whether it be your mom, dad or grandparent.
But guess what?
The time is NOW to release the ropes of habitual behavior and move into the realm of growth. Why? Because we have the opportunity to make huge change! How do we do this?
How do we connect to the conscious mind? Can you guess?
YOGA! Now some may say the key to the conscious mind is meditation and I would agree. However, most people are afraid of meditation. They can't imagine sitting in one place for a long period of time. But you know, that's not really meditation. We can save that for another Om...
It starts with yoga people. You breathe and move and that's all you do. You start with meditation and end with meditation - even if it's just 5 minutes. You are still - now able to access that conscious mind of yours that is creative and positive and open to new ideas and perspectives.
You are never too old, too sick, too young or too "far gone" to wake up. If we all woke up from this crazy slumber we were all in, life would really change - and drastically.
It starts simply with yoga....I swear it's that easy.
Give it a shot. You have nothing to lose.
