A Note From the Governor
Greetings!
May celebrates women in Rotary and my, my
what a contribution they have made since their inception into Rotary. Four
beautiful ladies have stepped forward in our 6710 Rotary history and have
served honorably as our District Governor -
Anne Robertson from the Rotary Club of Fulton served 1995-96; Mary Jo
Duke from the Rotary Club of Clinton served 2000-01; Loretta Williams from the
Rotary Club of Daviess County served 2001-02; and Kay Sharon served 2006-07. Today, over 63 women play key roles in our District serving as Club Presidents, Club Secretaries, District
Committee Members, Rotaract and Interact Officers and Advisors - their
contribution to the goals and objectives of Rotary is highly significant and my
hat is off to each and everyone - thank
you ladies and fellow Rotarians for your commitment and wonderful contribution. On other matters - Club Presidents you have
just under sixty days to wrap up your year - Membership remains a critical and it's
important that you keep the issue before your members. Also, don't forget to
complete your club commitment to the Rotary Foundation - remember the dollars
sent in today will effect our districts abilities to conduct critical programs
three years from now when 50% of those SHARE dollars come back to our District
here in Kentucky. Please, remember the future of Rotary is in
your hands. ChuckCharles E.

Register Now for the District Conference - Online Registration Available
As you know by now, on May 21-23, 2010, we'll be
hosting our Annual District Conference in Spencer
County, Indiana. There is something for everyone in Spencer County including historical attractions such as Lincoln's boyhood home and Holiday World. The conference schedule is now posted on our District website. Registration - You may
register online or download a paper form. Both are available at the district website. Conference Service Project - Each
participant is asked to bring 4 canned goods to contribute to our
conference service project. We will donate our goods to a local food
pantry. Sergeants-at-Arms -
If
you would like to volunteer to serve as a sergeant-at-arms, please
contact Don Dykman at DonDykman@aol.com. Door Prizes - Your club is invited to
provide conference door prizes. Please bring with you any items you
wish to donate (approx. $50 value) for a door prize! Items that
represent your local
community are always a big hit.
Although your clubs members may be aware of the conference, please make a special effort to announce the conference at your club meeting each week. It takes repetition for things to sink in! Consider sending an e-mail to your club members including the conference details, or print extra copies of the paper registration form to hand out at your club meetings. This conference will be one-of-a-kind, and you don't want to be the one who looks back some day while others are recalling the memories and thinking, "I wish I had been there!" |
Rotarian Memorial at District Conference

Rotary and the World Equestrian Games Rotarians, you
have probably already heard
from our club leadership that there is a huge opportunity for your club
in the
near future. The World Equestrian Games is coming to the Horse
Park in Lexington, KY
this fall. Rotarians from our District 6710 and our sister District 6740
in the
eastern part of the Commonwealth have been asked to staff the concession
booths
at the games in return for a large donation to Rotary. This is a chance
for
your club to earn money to satisfy your Polio Plus obligation or your
Rotary
Foundation obligation. In addition, for each shift you work, you will
receive a
day-long pass good for one of the days of the Games. Rotarians from
clubs near
the Horse Park will provide a place to stay for
those who don't live near enough to drive over and back in one day. Go
to
www.rotary-weg.org to sign up,
or see your club president or president-elect for more details. Please
help Rotary
do more good in the world. Remember, we can only build communities and
bridge
continents through the actions of individual Rotarians. Don't hesitate,
act now! |

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards The dates have changed but the location is the same. District 6710's Rotary Youth Leadership Award
(RYLA) camp will be held September 23-26, 2010 at the Wendell
H. Ford Regional
Training Center
in Greenville, KY. The past two RYLA camps have been held in May
during Memorial Day weekend. We are
moving to September in hopes of getting more Rotarians involved. RYLA 2010 will have a cowboy theme and our slogan is
"Leadership the Cowboy Way." We will be asking clubs to sponsor high school freshmen and
sophomores to attend the three day camp. Cost per student is $175 by September 1 and $200 from September 1 to
September 15. You can find more
information on RYLA on the District 6710 website and on the District 6710 RYLA Facebook page. We would love to come present a program on RYLA for your
club. If interested, contact PDG Kay
Sharon, RYLA District Chair, at 270-723-1899 or ksharon1@comcast.net. |
Secretary/Treasurer Training Not to be Held
After requesting feedback from clubs, there appeared
to be insufficient interest to warrant a District-conducted
Secretary/Treasurer training session at this time. If your club would like assistance in
these
functions, please contact your Assistant Governor.

Rotary Leadership Institute Coming to a Location Near You
The challenge of
many of our clubs is that of moving Club Members
into being active Rotarians. The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) does just that! Rotarians
who attend RLI become much
stronger leaders in the club. They become active beyond the club. RLI
graduates attend interclub meetings, assemblies
and conferences. RLI helps to start their thirst for Rotary. For
those that go
on to become Club Presidents...when they attend President Elect Training
they
are ready to take advantage. They know what questions to ask and they
learn a lot more than those attending without attending RLI.
Sponsoring future club leaders to attend RLI
is the best investment you can make in your club's future! RLI consists of
three one day parts. First time participants attend Part I. The
second time they attend RLI they
attend Part II and the third time Part III
and graduation.
ARE YOU POSITIONING YOUR CLUB FOR
FUTURE SUCCESS? Outstanding
clubs recruit up and coming club members to attend. The cost of each one-day session is $85. Upcoming Courses:Part 1- Saturday, May 15, Champaign, IL Part 1 - Saturday, May 22 - Jackson, TN Part 1 & 2- Saturday, May 22 - Dayton, OH For more information, and a link for online registration, visit our district website at http://www.rotarydistrict6710.org/view/233.

June is Rotary Fellowships Month
Rotary was founded on fellowship, a concept that has been expanded internationally through the Rotary Fellowships, groups that bring together members from different countries and cultures to enjoy a shared interest. In addition to fostering lifelong friendships, Rotary Fellowships keep members active in Rotary, sustaining their interest and further inspiring commitment.
The nearly one hundred Rotary Fellowships encompass a variety of vocations and avocations, ranging from sports and hobbies to professional interests - all of which serve as a way to extend international fellowship, friendship, and service. In addition to offering members an opportunity to share their passion for a particular interest with like-minded Rotarians, many individual fellowship groups enable members to use their hobbies or skills to serve others. For example, the Fellowship of Canoeing Rotarians has organized cleanups of polluted rivers, and members of the International Computer Users Fellowship of Rotarians conduct training sessions for Rotarians and other people in their community on how to use electronic media. Members of the International Fellowship of Rotarians with Repaired Hearts - or the "Zipper Club," as they call themselves - have provided life-saving surgeries to disadvantaged children with severe heart defects.
Do your club members know about Rotary Fellowships? Would some of them enjoy membership in one of these groups? Consider a program in June that showcases Rotary Fellowships.
Learn more at the RI website.

Heart of America Breakfast For those of you that are planning to go to the Rotary International
Convention in Montreal this coming June, there is an event you
should try and attend. The Heart of America
(Rotary Zones 30-31) Breakfast event is scheduled for June 22, 2010 at
the Palais des Congress de Montreal.
This
breakfast is a good opportunity to meet many of your colleagues from
the area at the International Convention. The keynote speaker is
RI President-Elect Ray Klinginsmith, who is from the Heart of America (Missouri). They have asked me to coordinate the ticket sales for this event. Tickets are $35.00 each. Please send your request to me along
with a check to District 6710. I will then forward your tickets
to you.
Please share this with any members of your club who will be attending

The
more numbers of our Rotary family we can have at the breakfast, the
more fun it will be! Come to Montreal and bring your family- after
