A Note From the Governor

Greetings! DG Chuck Cicchella

Club Presidents - Just a couple of reminders - if you have not yet submitted your paperwork for the Presidential Citation, you still have a few days to get it mailed in to me. I need to receive them all by April 12 at the very latest.  If you are close to achieving the necessary requirements and feel you will do so by June send in your application at this time and note which requirements you feel will be completed given the extra time.

Also, a good many clubs have yet to send in any monies in support of our Rotary Foundation such as EREY, Paul Harris dollars and other special funds raised for this purpose. I realize that some clubs are just now completing some of their annual fund raising activities, however, Club Presidents please check with your Club Treasurer to be sure these funds get sent off as soon as they are available so that your club and your donors can gain appropriate credit.

April is Rotary Magazine month - it's time to have some fun and offer some fun type prizes by having a member of your club at your meetings this month quiz your other club members on some of the major articles shown in the current Rotarian - improved readership to the magazine can't help but inspire a sense of deep Rotary pride.

Remember, the future of Rotary is in your hands.

Chuck

April is Magazine Month The Rotarian
April is Magazine Month, a time to celebrate the global network of Rotary's official magazines, which provide valuable information to 1.2 million Rotarians.

The Rotary World Magazine Press
consists of 32 magazines from Africa, the Americas, Asia, Australia, and Europe that inform, inspire, and entertain in 23 languages. In addition to The Rotarian, Rotary's English-language flagship publication, it offers magazines such as Vida Rotaria (Argentina), Rotary in Bulgaria, and The Rotary-no-Tomo (Japan).

Use Rotary publications to enhance your club:
  • Collect The Rotarian magazine from members once they have read them, put a sticker on the front with your club contact information, and leave them in places such as waiting rooms at doctors' offices.
  • Donate a subscription of The Rotarian to your local school or library.
  • Search past issues of The Rotarian online via Google
  • and see if your club has been mentioned in any issue.
  • Pick a fact from the latest issue and challenge your members to answer a trivia question at each meeting.
  • Highlight information from The Rotarian in club meetings and newsletters.
Apply Now for District Awards
Your club has done some wonderful things this year, and now is the time to apply for District Awards to recognize those accomplishments.
  • Awards available include:

  • Best Vocational Service Project
  • Best International Service Project
  • Best Community Service Project

The deadline for submissions is May 1.
Register Now for the District Conference - Online Registration Available

As you know by now, on May 21-23, 2010, we'll be hosting our Annual District Conference in Spencer County, Indiana. There is something for everyone in Spencer County including historical Spencer County, Indianaattractions such as Lincoln's boyhood home and Holiday World.  We are excited about the format change that is intended to create a family-centered event involving spouses and children, other family members, and Interact and Rotaract members in most aspects of the conference itself. We are inviting our Rotarian's family members to play an active role while at the conference. Here are some examples of how they will be involved:
  • Spouses and/or  12 years or older children will be serving as Conference Sergeant at Arms
  • Children 5 years of age or older will be leading us in prayer, pledge to the Flag and the Four Way Test
  • Spouses, teenagers, Interact and Rotaract members will be serving at the conference registration desk
  • Spouses, children, and Interact and Rotaract members will be packaging up the food canned goods in our "Service Above Self" project to supply a food pantry that serves the poor
  • Spouses and/or children 12 years of age or older will be entertaining with their musical talents.
  • Spouses and/or children 12 years or older will be a part of the Sunday Memorial Service
We're even planning extra "fun" activities for the kids including a scavenger hunt!  Those interested in serving in any of the above areas may contact Don Dykman, Conference Committee member, at (502) 226-1948 or by e-mail at dondykman@aol.com.

Also, District 6710 is proud to be offering online registration and payment options for the first time this year.  Complete online registration information, as well as a link to download a paper copy of the registration form are available on our district website at
http://www.rotarydistrict6710.org/view/308.

Although your clubs members may be aware of the conference, please make a special effort to announce the conference at your club meeting each week.  It takes repetition for things to sink in!  Consider sending an e-mail to your club members including the conference details, or print extra copies of the paper registration form to hand out at your club meetings.

This conference will be one-of-a-kind, and you don't want to be the one who looks back some day while others are recalling the memories and thinking, "I wish I had been there!"
Rotary Leadership Institute Coming to a Location Near You
Rotary Leadership Institute
The challenge of many of our clubs is that of moving Club Members into being active Rotarians.

The Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) does just that!

Rotarians who attend RLI become much stronger leaders in the club. They become active beyond the club.  RLI graduates attend interclub meetings, assemblies and conferences.

RLI helps to start their thirst for Rotary. For those that go on to become Club Presidents...when they attend President Elect Training they are ready to take advantage.  They know what questions to ask and they learn a lot more than those attending without attending RLI.

Sponsoring future club leaders to attend RLI is the best investment you can make in your club's future!

RLI consists of three one day parts.  First time participants attend Part I.  The second time they attend RLI they attend Part II and the third time Part III and graduation.

ARE YOU POSITIONING YOUR CLUB FOR FUTURE SUCCESS?

Outstanding clubs recruit up and coming club members to attend.  The cost of each one-day session is $85.

Upcoming Courses:
Part 1- Saturday, April 24 - Henderson, KY
Part 1- Saturday, May 15, Champaign, IL
Part 1 - Saturday, May 22 - Jackson, TN
Part 1 & 2- Saturday, May 22 - Dayton, OH

Heart of America Breakfast
For those of you that are planning to go to the Rotary International Convention in Montreal this coming June, there is an event you should try and attend.  The Heart of America (Rotary Zones 30-31) Breakfast event is scheduled for June 22, 2010 at the Palais des Congress de Montreal.

This breakfast is a good opportunity to meet many of your colleagues from the area at the Montreal 2010International Convention.  The keynote speaker is RI President-Elect Ray Klinginsmith, who is from the Heart of America (Missouri).

They have asked me to coordinate the ticket sales for this event.  Tickets are $35.00 each.  Please send your request to me along with a check to District 6710.  I will then forward your tickets to you.

Please share this with any members of your club who will be attending the convention.

The more numbers of our Rotary family we can have at the breakfast, the more fun it will be!  Come to Montreal and bring your family- after all, the Future of Rotary Is In Your Hands!
