A Note From the Governor
Greetings!
Ring out the
old and bring in the new - Happy New Year!
Five months,
twenty five days, twelve hours and thirty five seconds to go in this Rotary
year, but who's counting? There is still a lot to be done - remember the
following: - Club membership
- Polio support
- District Conference in May - need
spouse and child volunteers
- "Paul Harris Drawing" for those clubs
engaged and /or Rotary Foundation support
- District Simplified Grant requests
- Club projects
- Club Weekly Programs
- Sponsored programs - District Speech
Contest, Interact, Rotaract, RYLA candidates for next September and remember in
May the visiting GSE team from England
Club
Presidents- you need to remember that you are the "catalyst" - the quarterback,
if you will. District Officers and
Committee Members, Club Secretaries, Club Boards, and Club Committee Chairs
need to remember that they are vital members of the support team. Is your team ready for the playoffs? Can you make it to the Rotary Super Bowl in
June?
I encourage
everyone to use all your resources to achieve your objectives. Club Presidents remember that the Rotary
District is designed to serve clubs in every way that it can starting with your
assigned Assistant District Governor - look upon them as a "general practitioner." If they can't help you fix it, they know
where to turn to get you the "specialists" you need.
"The future
of Rotary is in your hands"
ChuckCharles E.
Cicchella 6710 District Governor |

January is Rotary Awareness Month
From TRF Trustee Chair Glenn Estess
January is Rotary Awareness Month - a
time to learn more about our organization, and a time to focus on our
public image. Raising awareness of Rotary is an important part of the
RI Strategic Plan: The more Rotary is known for its good work, the more
good work Rotary will be able to do.
As
Past RI President Robert Barth of Switzerland said, "We believe that
the Rotary pin on our lapel sends a message. It says, 'You can rely on
me. I am dependable, I am reliable, I give more than I take. I am
available.'"

Mayfield Rotary Celebrates Christmas with Special Guests from the Lighthouse
Staff and several residents of The Lighthouse, on organization that assists victims of domestic violence, were special guests at the
Mayfield Rotary Christmas luncheon. Graves County High School's Choir
Director-Jacob Hein, Graves County Schools' Performing Arts Center Director-Donna Gream, and GSHS students Emily Duff and Matthew Roland
provided special music during the luncheon. Everyone was surprised when
Santa dropped by with gifts for the Lighthouse guests. The children
enjoyed sharing items from their Christmas wish lists with Santa.
Pictured above is Lighthouse Director, Traci Lawrence (left) receiving her
gift from Santa in the form of a $500 check from Mayfield Rotary Club
President, Leigh Ann Jarvis. The donation will be used for playground
equipment for the children. The Rotary logo will be placed in the play
area. Governor Chuck is sure that President Leigh Ann also asked Santa to bring the Mayfield Rotary Club a Presidential Citation this year!

Expand Membership in 2010
Will 2010 see renewal and growth of
membership? Seek out the material available on the Rotary International website. There are a variety of materials you can use to help your club gain
confidence and direction in recruiting new members. The information leads to
one common destination: the confidence to ask good people to join Rotary.
Membership in Rotary is a volunteer activity. Research consistently finds the
most common reason volunteers didn't come to organizations earlier is that no
one asked. Gain the confidence to ask people to join Rotary and help members of
your club gain the confidence to ask people to join you. I will be glad to
talk to you about your club's plan. Roland R. Blahnik District 6710 Membership Committee RRBlahnik@gwik.org
