| Greetings! | |
Welcome to summer, with all the wonderful activities available to you. We hope you will still have time to curl up in a cozy chaise in the backyard with your children and read some of their favorite books (among which, we are sure, PJ Library books are sure to be found!).
PJ Library will be here to offer you some happy summertime opportunities with exciting programs and new books. Summer is such great time for families to reconnect with each other and create special occasions to relax, share enjoyable memories, and revel in the world around you.
We hope PJ Library will be part of your summertime joy!
B'Shalom,

A "Mini" Teaching Moment
The Talmud Teaches . . .
According to the Talmud, a Jewish parent is required to teach his/her child to swim.
Why does swimming rank up there with teaching Torah and livelihood skills? Blogger Jeremy Epstein muses that "teaching a child to swim is a metaphor for teaching that child to be an independent being." "You can't totally let go at the beginning," Epstein writes, "but you can't hold on ... forever."
This summer, help your child to brave new waters. One idea might be to try summer camp -- after all, like several June PJ selections point out, Jewish summer camp can be an awfully fun place.

Help PJ Plan Playdates in the Park
PJ In the Park
July 18, 2012 - 10:00 to 11:30 am
Let's have fun this summer with other PJ Library families who live in our near our own neighborhoods!
Hosted by PJ parents and PJL Steering Committee volunteers, the playdate will feature all the ingredients you have come to enjoy -- stories, songs, games, and an opportunity to get to know other families, this time in your own neighborhood.
To make this happen, we need YOU! We've picked the date: Wednesday, July 18. We've set the time: 10 am. Now all we need are the places to meet! And a parent or two to be the "host" for the event.
If you would be willing to be a PJ Park Playdate Host, please let us know. You can email us at pjlibrary@jvalley.org or call Rabbi Alexander at 405-357-7509.
If there is a wonderful park in your neighborhood, please let us know. Help us identify other families in your neighborhood who might enjoy this program.
Come to the park and, who knows? You and your children may make wonderful new lifelong friends! |

"Sifriyat Pijama B'America," is a Hebrew-language counterpart to our own PJ Library program, with enrollment in the program offered through Yavneh Day School.
Thanks to funding from the Adam and Gila Milstein Family Foundation, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation, the Israeli Leadership Council, and the Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley, Bay Area children who register will receive books in the mail, addressed in their name, eight times per year. The program's goals are to strengthen Hebrew language skills and to foster connections to our Jewish roots and values.
Children must be ages three to six, and at least one parent must be a native Hebrew speaker to register. Distribution begins in September 2012 for families who register at one of the Sifriyat Pijama registration events at Yavneh Day School by the June 30th deadline.
For more information, or to schedule a personal Sifriyat Pijama registration appointment, please contact Becky Aidlberg at becky@yavnehdayschool.org or call (408) 984-6700.

A Dinosaur's Happy Birthday to Israel and Hadassah -- A Great Success!
"Dinosaur Goes to Israel," a book by local author Diane Rauchwerger, was the hit of the day at Alef Bet Judaica in Los Gatos. Diane read her book to the delight of the children who attended. The event's success was due to outstanding Steering Committee members Bette Emanuel, Barb Green, Nancy Goldsmith, and Sandy Mayer who planned and managed the event -- including making Israeli flags and eating fruits grown in Israel. Great fun was had by all! Thanks to Nurit Sabadosh, proprietor of her beautifully appointed Judaica store.
