CROSS PROMOTION AND CO-OP ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY:  DISNEYNATURE'S "OCEANS" COMING TO A THEATER NEAR YOU!

DEMA Authorizes $20,000 of Co-Op Funds for In-Theater Promotions

The Diving Equipment and Marketing Association has designated up to $20,000 of the available 2010 DEMA co-op advertising funds to be used by DEMA Member retail dive centers for in-theater advertising during the screening of Disneynature's film "OCEANS," due in more than 600 US theaters on Earth Day, April 22, 2010.

The release of this film is an unprecedented opportunity for dive retailers and operators to promote diving to a pre-qualified audience already interested in the aquatic environment.  DEMA Member retail dive centers can act on this opportunity quickly and easily by using the professionally designed Be A Diver campaign advertising materials to reach theater-goers.  DEMA recommends using the Be A Diver video commercial for in-theater advertising during the screening of OCEANS, and creating local cross-promotional opportunities designed to bring viewers directly into the retail store.

To assist in taking advantage of this unique opportunity, on a first-come, first-served basis DEMA Member retailers that conduct in-theater advertising during the screening of OCEANS and who use the Be A Diver video commercial are eligible for 2010 DEMA co-op advertising funds from DEMA.  DEMA will fund up to $5,000 per media buy when retailers combine with at least one other DEMA Member business to produce their promotional campaign. To be eligible for funding, promotional campaigns must also include the use of additional Be A Diver materials for web ads, print ads or other methods of reaching potential customers.  For a list of the Program's eligibility requirements click here.

According to Disneynature Films, "OCEANS is an inspiring adventure into a liquid world few of us have ever seen before.  Yet the oceans cover more than 70 percent of our planet. The second Disneynature film, OCEANS, offers an unprecedented window into this largely unexplored world as well as an extraordinary educational opportunity."  Disneynature is reaching out to teachers and schools to help promote the film, and has created an Activity Guide and a separate Educational Guide, both of which can be downloaded in pdf format from:  http://disney.go.com/disneynature/oceans/.

Retailers can work directly with local schools to provide additional hands-on opportunities, including conducting classroom visits, showing underwater video or photos, demonstrating scuba equipment, or other activities that can help promote diving to students, parents and the entire family.  Working with local theaters and businesses showing the film may also lead to additional promotional opportunities.

The Co-Op Advertising Program is exclusively open to DEMA Members. Interested DEMA Member Retailers should contact Retail Membership Manager, Dave Reidenbach, to discuss the Co-Op Advertising Program.  Dave can be reached via email at bigwavedave@dema.org or by calling (920) 205-3657.
