"Don't wait for your feelings to change to take the action. Take the action and your feelings will change" ~ Barbara Baron
How often do we stop ourselves from doing something waiting for something else to change before we move forward? We think we need to wait until we are more prepared, knowledgeable, financially savvy, confident, secure, fill in the blank, to take the action. But then we never get to that place and so we never take the action. And then 5 years pass and we are still talking about it but we are "not ready yet".
We're coming into a time where there is a sense of urgency for more of us to step out and claim our truths, follow our paths, own our power and live our lives out loud.
But sometimes we know what our purpose or path is and stop ourselves because of the feelings we might confront. We want to know what we're doing, first. We want to feel more confident in our steps forward. We want to know that we will not make a fool of ourselves. We want to know that we are doing it "right".
But what if there wasn't that guarantee? What if the only way to find out was by doing it? What if the only way of gaining confidence was by doing the thing we were not yet confident enough to do? What if the only way of gaining knowledge was by jumping in and finding out where we lacked knowledge? What if the only way to get more prepared was to get as prepared as we could and then find out the other areas once we were there?
Because the thing is, we are not alone in our creations. We are always co-creating. Which means that we have access to energy that creates world. Whenever we are forging ahead, we are doing it in partnership with the larger part of us that knows what we are doing.
When coaching an individual and they keep saying "I don't know", I ask what the response might be if they DID know? If they DID know, what might they say differently? Invariably we would find out together, that there IS something inside that knows and that it is dictating in a very knowing, sound and real way.
We have an inner compass that always knows the way. But the only way we can get feedback from this knowing is through being engaged. Not in our head. Not in our mind. Not in theory, but in action. In real time.
In action is when we invoke the guidance.
I always like to compare our knowing to that game we played when we were kids. Someone hides a pen and we go looking for it and as we get closer to it in proximity, they say "warm, warmer, hot, boiling". But when we get further away, they say "cold, colder, freezing", etc. By their direction we get closer to our target.
But the thing is this: if we don't go looking for the item, we don't get the direction on our proximity radar.
Similarly our inner compass works in the same way. It will always give us feedback on what we need to know, what we need to do differently, what we need to do next. But it doesn't provide this if we are stationary on our den couches, living it out in our head. Action is what invokes the guidance. Having at it.
The thing we forget about when we step out is this: we think we are just one small person wanting to effect big change. When in fact it is the other way around. We are powerful people wanting to effect small change. To the powers that be the changes we want to implement in ourselves or the world are a small feat. After all, they have the perfection of entire galaxies to their creative credits. And we have this same energy within us - energy that creates worlds!
But just like the energy supply that exists behind the outlet, the power is useless to us if we don't plug it in.
Because we are again at the start of a new year, this week I'm calling you to plug in. Ignite the charge by stepping into action.
This week: sign up for the class, make the call, face your taxes, put up the website (it doesn't have to be perfect), pay for the membership (just get on board), have the difficult conversation, place the ad, send off the resume, go to that networking event, make the introduction, get your book-keeping in order, dust off the manuscript, distribute the flyer, get rid of the clutter, go on that date, take the trip, call the publisher, make the collection call, ask for the raise, publish the article, make the speech, take the test, schedule the visit, call the creditors, fill in the blank.
In other words, do that thing you've been putting off. Don't wait for your feelings to change about the action. Just take the action and see how your feelings change.
And remember this: you are not doing this for the outcome, although there will be an outcome. You are doing this because you are the creator in your life and you have decided that now is as good a time as any to jump in.
You are doing this to know more fully that you are co-creating with an energy that creates worlds that can now generate energy for you because it can now generate energy THROUGH you.
You are doing this because you take dominion over your own life and you are knowing your true Source.
Because Spiritual Mastery is first Self-Mastery.
Know your connection.
