Note From Sonya

Dear ,

I got a really wonderful email from a reader last week in response to the MMM on "Simply Deciding". He asked "Why is it we, as humans, obsess on having to make decisions or fearing if we're doing the right thing, or are so concerned with power being in our hands. The paradox seems that the more we let go, the more control we have or the more relaxed we can be in just being. What is all this maniacal drive about?"

He quoted a Steinbeck book he was reading ("Travels with Charlie") while traveling, where Steinbeck writes "We don't take a trip. The trip takes us."  He tells me how he allows himself to practice this advice during his visit to New Orleans and how it exposes him to things he wouldn't have experienced otherwise.

I had a similar experience this week. It's about letting go.

Memo of the Week

"We don't take a trip. The trip takes us."    ~ John Steinbeck

I met a woman at a business meeting last week and she told me about a dance that takes place in my town on Sunday mornings. She tells me I should go, that it is a lot of fun. Before I leave the meeting that night, she says "See you on Sunday"?

"Probably not" I tell her.

But I notice my resistance.

It isn't just that I have resistance, though. I have judgment. Only a certain type of person would be at a dance on a Sunday morning in Sebastopol and I am not one of those people. This isn't a pole dancing or yoga class, or some kind of structured class with instruction and form. No. This is a free for all dance. I Google it when I get home. The Sunday morning session is called "Body Prayer", a form of "transformative dance" and a practice in which you "embody" consciousness. You show up in a room with a group of people and simply allow the spirit to move you.

I have, up to this point avoided this sort of thing.

But because I like music. And I like dancing. And because I am completely resistant to the idea, I dare myself to show up. I invite friends but they tell me to go, have a good time and tell them all about it when I return.

So, I go it alone. I enter the hall. There is a line of at least 10 people in front of me paying at the desk and at least that many behind me, waiting their turn. Attractive men and women everywhere between late 30's and early 60's are finding their spots on the hardwood floor. It looks like many of them know each other. They have been here before. I do not know anyone. The woman from the business meeting is not here. I am given no instruction so I follow the rest of the crowd and take my place on the floor, barefoot.
By the time the music begins, the room is full. There are well over 100 people in the hall.

I notice my resistance. I am completely out of my element. It is clear I have a decision to make.

Am I going to allow this experience or resist it? Am I going to leave because I am uncomfortable or am I going to stay and move through the discomfort?

I make a conscious decision to simultaneously stay put and let go.

be the prayerI deepen my breathing. I practice yoga. I let the sound of the music move my body. I send energy through my fingers and toes and ground myself in the room. There is no talking allowed. This is meant to be a practice in non verbal communication. We move from slow classical music to experimental to folk song to loud hip-hop back to instrumental. Pretty soon the room becomes this living, breathing organism. People are moving organically, some in tandem, some with their eyes closed, some while lying down. I notice my armor dissolving. I notice the resistance between where I end and "they" begin to lessen. And then the music stops and there is silence. The facilitator tells us to keep dancing to the silence to bring as much energy to it as if there were music. To find our music inside.

This is unlike anything I have done before. We are all strangers in a room, dancing, except we're not -  we are not strangers and we are not dancing. This is a practice in living. In moving with what moves us. In following our own rhythm. In allowing our own experience.

In letting go.

And like my friend, my reader, who is following Steinbeck's advice, while traveling in New Orleans who makes the decision to let the trip take him, I, too, let the music take me, let the experience take me, to places I have not been before.

On a Sunday morning in Sebastopol, I become one of those people that shows up to a dance hall at 10am and dances barefoot with strangers on a hardwood floor, for better or for worse.

And I discover something new about myself.

Some of you may be unfamiliar with Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). I find it to be one of the most effective methods of clearing limiting beliefs or old emotional patterns. So, I'm offering a FREE download of an actual interview with Brad Yates that took place on a financial teleseminar I co-produced. During the course of the interview, he actually takes you through a series of tappings so you get an actual experience.

The topic is called "EFT: Tapping Your Way Into Abundance" (which is always relevant) and it is yours for FREE.

Or if you want to read more about EFT, you can also download the manual, written by founder of EFT, Gary Craig:

Brad YatesBRAD YATES

If you want to get rid of any emotional barriers that stand in the way between you and what you want, Emotional Freedom Technique is one of the quickest routes to "freedom". Brad Yates was a speaker on The Tapping Solution Telesummit as well as someone I've worked with personally. And he has some pretty effective programs.
Known as the "EFT Wizard", Brad says, "The extent to which we are not experiencing that which we say we want in our life is the extent to which we are resisting it. That resistance comes from our thoughts, or our limiting beliefs and they actually show up as blocks in our energy system. Through tapping on the meridian points, we can actually clear those blocks and experience freedom." He affectionately calls EFT "Mental Floss".

If you struggle with beliefs around money and want to change them, he has a very powerful program he developed with Joe Vitale, from the movie "The Secret". The program is called Money Beyond Belief.

You can read more about it here ==>
http://budurl.com/bradyatesmbb

If you have struggled with weight loss or body image, he developed a program on this as well. It's called (not surprisingly)  Body Beyond Belief.

Find out about it here ==> http://budurl.com/bradyatesbbb

His latest program is called Confidence Beyond Belief. On this one he partners with Master Hypnotist, Steve G. Jones and together they combine their best talents to put forth a program that promises to positively boost your confidence level (at a minimal cost)!

Check that one out here ==> http://budurl.com/byconfidence

I'm a fan of Brad's and highly recommend any and all of his programs.
