Greetings!
Happy Wednesday.
This year's 4th of July celebrations brought us SIZZLING weather and a SPECTACULAR display of fireworks! We hope that you had a chance to relax with friends and family at the beach, the camp ground, or in your very own backyard.
Now that July is here, can you believe that half of the year is over? Although we still have six weeks left to enjoy summer, the next few weeks would be a great time to organize your environments and your plans for what's in store this upcoming school year. So recall and reflect on all of your programs' experiences from this past year with children in your care, especially those "challenging behaviors" that really stumped you.
Over the next few weeks, the I-Care e-newsletter will describe how providers like you can make a difference in the life of a child who has "challenged" you in some way. Help us help you by sharing some of your past or present behavior challenges. Tell us your stories by emailing help@applesforchildren.org

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful citizens can change the world. Indeed it is the only thing that ever has. -Margaret Mead
"I have had it! I really can't take it anymore. It is so unfair for the other children. All he ever does is scream and cry from the time he walks in the door until the time he leaves!"
-from a preschool teacher
This is a call that we have received many times on our help line from providers just like you. That's right, you are not alone! Most likely you once had, or currently have, a child with challenging behaviors in your program. Maybe you have even needed to seriously consider if his or her needs were being met in your child care.
Over the next few weeks, you will hear stories from other providers that have participated in APPLES Early Childhood Destination: Inclusion project. Their stories will tell you how they learned to keep a child with challenging behaviors, and how they gave him the support he needs to manage his emotions and to interact with others successfully.
APPLES Early Childhood Destination: Inclusion helps child care programs understand and meet the social and emotional needs of children from birth to five years old. The project is a FREE service to any Western Maryland family child care providers, child care centers, and the children and families in their care.
