Summer is the time when one sheds one's tensions with one's clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all's right with the world.
~Ada Louise Huxtable

It's a beautiful summer day. The sky is deep blue, the birds are singing, and the smell of honeysuckle fills the air. What are you doing inside?
Virtually everything you and your children do inside you can do outside (with the possible exception of diapering and toileting). Take your daily activities outside by stuffing several backpacks with various supplies:
- books and puppets
- paper and crayons
- paper, paints and paintbrushes
- Legos or other building blocks
- block people, cars and trucks
- play food and dishes
- magnifying glasses and containers for examining bugs
Keep the backpacks light enough for your oldest children to carry outside. Then create "centers" by positioning each backpack in a different area of your outdoor space. Be sure to have cool water, sunscreen and some shade available, and you are ready to take advantage of the summer weather - and play the day away! |
