The Associated Press has reported widely that "the birthplace of American golf" Oakhurst Links nine-hole golf course and museum is for sale. The asking price for the course, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is $4.5 million. (Here is a link to the article.)

For those interested in learning more about Oakhurst, we have just made available Paula DiPerna and Vikki Keller's book "Oakhurst: The Birth and Rebirth of America's First Golf Course."  The book, published in 2002, includes a foreword by Sam Snead entitled "The Flower Nobody Saw." It was Sam Snead that persuaded current owner Lewis Keller to buy the course and restore it to its original state. The renovation was completed in 1994 with noted golf architect Bob Cupp.

Interesting to note, Herbert Warren Wind, among others, tell a different story about the birthplace of American golf at St. Andrew's Golf Club in New York. The first chapter of Wind's "The Story of American Golf" details the efforts of John Reid "the father of American golf" and St. Andrew's infamous Apple Tree Gang. This book is one of Wind's most notable and a cornerstone of any golf book collection.

We are selling the Oakhurst book as a part of our Golf Club History Book offering for only $20!

In fact, if you buy any 2 books this month, we will give you the Oakhurst book FREE (while supplies last)! What a great reason to get caught up on your American golf history.
