Backtotop

May the road rise up to meet you.

May the wind always be at your back.

May the sun shine warm upon your face,

And rains fall soft upon your fields.

And until we meet again,

May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Old Irish Blessing

(used as closing prayer for our 8th grade graduates)

Important: Volunteer Sign-Up and Enrollment

Hopefully you have had a chance to go to our website, to the Parent Portal and check the information at each tab for any of your children attending GSCM.  You should also have gone onto the Parent Page to sign up for volunteer positions, get your child's class list, copy of the school calendar, and more.  It is very important that you do this NOW.  If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Toon ntoon@gscmontessori.org or 513-271-4171.

GSCM has a new online community!  Think of it as the bulletin board in your inbox.

  • Need a ride to soccer for Little Johnny on Saturday?
  • Jane Smith had a baby - bring her a meal!
  • Child's bike for sale!
  • Know a good plumber?
  • Play date in the park after school Friday!

Posts will begin over the summer, and you need to "opt in" to be included in the email loop.
Check it out on the GSCM Parent Page!

Preschool 3- and 4-Day Options

If your child will turn three after September 1, 2012, we are offering a 3- or 4-day option for attending our preschool in 2012-13.   The Montessori Pre-Primary environment is well-suited to a child who has not yet turned three, yet has the interest and maturity to explore a broader classroom environment. The young child's absorbent mind is also well-suited to this rich, orderly, appealing learning environment.

We are offering limited opportunities for a 3- or 4-day enrollment for younger children. If interested, please contact Dan Teller: dteller@gscmontessori.org.

Staffing News: Lower El Music

Joy France recently informed us that she will not be returning as our lower elementary music teacher next year. Joy has certainly been what her name proclaims - a source of joy for our 1st-3rd grade students for the past six years. Her classes have been dynamic in terms of song, movement, dance, and instrumentation. We thank her for her wonderful service to our school! Since the lower el music position is so part-time (4 hours/week), Joy decided to re-organize her weekly schedule to allot more time for her other endeavors, including her more substantial work at Grailville and her work as a ceramic artist.

Barb Blasch, our current upper elementary music teacher, will be taking on Joy's duties as lower el music teacher. We are pleased to have Barb take on a more substantial role in our music program. This will provide more continuity for our children, will provide a stronger integration between music classes and music in our liturgies, and will provide a greater opportunity for extended school choir and other extra-curricular music events and activities. Barb started a GSCM student choir this year and intends to continue and develop this next year. Barb attended a 5-day workshop last summer (hosted by our school) on Montessori music for the lower elementary child, including use of rhythm, singing, movement, notation, and song-writing. In addition to her skills with singing, instrumentation, and music theory, these concepts will now be brought more fully into the lower el music program.

Last Week's IPM Collection

Good Shepherd families contributed a 71 personal care items or food items last week for Inter Parish Ministry's food choice pantry. The actual total was well over 100, so a word of explanation is in order.

Trial-size packages are given to families on a 3-for-1 basis; i.e., three trial-size bottles count as one regular bottle. So using that formula, we provided 71 items for clients.

Since the beginning of the school year, Good Shepherd families contributed 522 food and other items to help our neighbors in need. Thank you-thank you-thank you!

Throughout this year, GSCM families have responded generously and faithfully to the needs of our neighbors. Thank you for all you have done.
