Let's Play Ball!: Wed., May 23

Wear red or blue to support your favorite team!

Our annual staff-middle school whiffle ball game is scheduled for Wednesday, May 23 at 1:00 p.m.

All students are invited to wear non-uniform clothing on May 23. Dress in blue if you are rooting for the middle school; dress in red if you are rooting for the staff. Students are also encouraged to bring a water bottle to quench their thirst during the game.

Tuesday, May 29: Final School Mass with Candle Ceremony

Our final Mass of the year provides an opportunity to express special thanksgiving for the gift of our school and school community. At the end of Mass, a "Candle Ceremony" enables all of our students to recognize the upcoming departure of our 8th grade class. Our graduates pass lit candles to their 7th grade peers as a sign of the passing of leadership to next year's oldest students.

OAC Residency

Many people have enjoyed and commented on the stunning installation in our front stairwell created by OAC resident artist Debbie Brod and GSCM students. The middle school students created a video documenting their participation in our residency, and this will soon be posted on our website.

Many thanks to Debbie Broad and the Ohio Arts Council for making this great experience possible for our students.

Thanks also to:

  • GSCM parent Jeff Koehn who generously and skillfully helped with the installation
  • Former GSCM parent Jack Frank/New Energy Petroleum for donating use of their scaffolding for the installation
  • GSCM PTO for their financial support of the residency and help with numerous volunteer tasks
  • GSCM art teacher Shannon Treier for her close collaboration with Debbie Brod during the residency.

We couldn't have done it without you!

Preschool 3- and 4-Day Options

If your child will turn three after September 1, 2012, we are offering a 3- or 4-day option for attending our preschool in 2012-13.   The Montessori Pre-Primary environment is well-suited to a child who has not yet turned three, yet has the interest and maturity to explore a broader classroom environment. The young child's absorbent mind is also well-suited to this rich, orderly, appealing learning environment.

We are offering limited opportunities for a 3- or 4-day enrollment for younger children. If interested, please contact Dan Teller: dteller@gscmontessori.org.

Final IPM Collection Thursday, May 24

The final collection this school year for Inter Parish Ministry's food choice pantry will be this Thursday, May 24. We will be collecting any of the following personal care items: shampoo; deodorant; baby lotion; baby shampoo; and baby (diaper) wipes. Because families cannot use food stamps to purchase these things, they're always needed at the pantry.

Throughout this year, GSCM families have responded generously and faithfully to the needs of our neighbors. Thank you for all you have done.

Baby Bottle Fundraiser

Thank you to all the families who are contributing to the Middle School fund raiser for the work of Pregnancy Center East. I have already picked up a few bottles and I am amazed at the generosity of those families. Please return all bottles (filled or not) to your child's teacher this week. Our Middle School students will pick them up in the classrooms. Thank you so much once again for your generosity!
