Rice Park tree lit with 30,000 LEDs
Downtown Saint Paul's historic Rice Park transforms into an enchanting winter wonderland from November 26, 2011 to January 1, 2012. Rice Park powered by Xcel Energy will capture the spirit of the holiday season with a tree as tall and bright as the iconic Rockefeller Center tree in New York City. The gigantic tree in Rice Park will be lit with 30,000 energy-efficient LED lights, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The park will sparkle with millions of twinkling lights, classic Nutcracker and angel statues, and other holiday décor.

Recycle old holiday lights, save energy with LEDs
Frustrated with old, broken, tangled holiday lights? Now is the time to get rid of broken light strands and upgrade to new, high-efficient LED holiday lights. According to the Department of Energy, running LED holiday lights on one 6-foot tree for 12 hours per day for 40 days can save 90 percent or more energy when compared to traditional incandescent holiday lights. Recycle Your Holidays™ recycles every part of the light strings. Check it out!

Don't let winter keep you from biking

Need a class? Want to join an organized winter ride? Bike Walk Twin Cities offers winter cycling resources.
Remember that bicycle tires require regular inflation every few weeks and more often as the weather gets colder. Improper inflation can lead to flat tires, decreased rider control and inefficient riding. The City of Minneapolis has bicycle pumps at six sites to allow downtown bike commuters to manually inflate their tires. Learn more.
The City of Minneapolis offers even more tips for winter biking. |
