Yes, the Great Tomato Tasting Contest is still slated for the first Saturday afternoon in September and there will be prizes. Here are the rudimentary rules.
1) You will have grown the tomato yourself. A picture of the plant with yourself at its side is necessary.
2) You will have kept a simple log of how it was grown and the type of feeding applied.
3) On the day of the contest you will bring about one pound of fruit in a shallow basket plus the information above.
4) The fruit will be cut and judged for smell, flavour and texture. Expect a major portion to be eaten. Extra points will be given for productivity, hardiness and vigour. No points will be deducted for blemishes, shape, size or colour. Attention will be given to whether it is a salad or canning tomato.
5) An entrance fee per tomato(basket) entered into the contest will be charged and will go entirely to incidental costs. I am guessing no more than $5.
6) If we have enough participants we might end up with a BBQ and a tomato salad making contest.
7) Please let me know if you are interested in participating by e-mail, pat@pasu.com
or fax 403 337 2418 as soon as possible. The more interest we get the better chance we have of attracting a few well known personalities as judges.

We offer Lamb Ribs, Sirloin Steak, Tandori Chicken, Homemade Sausage, Great fixings, Hors de oeuvres (without the Horses) and dessert for $40. Sometimes we even add seafood to the BBQ. And the view is worth the trip alone. If you have not tried it, what are you waiting for?
