It's hard not to notice the contentious debate taking place over the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), commonly called Obamacare.  From the recent U.S. Supreme Court proceedings to Congressional action to rulings by the Department of Health and Human Services, it's difficult to keep up with where things stand.

 U.S. SUPREME COURT HEARS ORAL
ARGUMENTS ON "AFFORDABLE CARE ACT" 
 
 
The United States Supreme Court recently completed hearing oral arguments concerning the implementation of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).  The case is based on complaints from 26 states that the act is an unconstitutional exercise of power by the federal government.  A ruling in the case is expected in late June.  For a more complete rundown of the proceedings, click here.
HHS ISSUES FINAL RULE ON SUMMARY OF BENEFITS AND COVERAGE (SBC) REQUIREMENTS
 

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released its final rule concering the requirements for distributing Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) statements.   

The new requirements go into effect for plans years beginning after September 23, 2012.
