SPIDER VEINS
The Cutera CoolGlide combines the ideal laser wavelength with the most flexible parameters to deliver a superior vascular laser system to treat a broad range of vessels from tiny red telangectasias to red, blue and purple spider veins. The CoolGlide is safe and effective for patients with light or dark skin, but should not be used on skin with recent sun exposure. (Varicose veins, which usually appear as bulging, roap-like green veins, cannot be treated with the Cutera CoolGlide and should be evaluated by a vascular surgeon.)
The Cutera CoolGlide systems deliver pulses of light energy which cause the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by your body. Blood flow will then be redirected to veins deeper below your skin's surface, where it should be. When scheduling treatment, it is important to remember that certain veins can look worse for up to 5-6 weeks after treatment before they get better; hence starting treatment in late winter or early spring allows veins to heal before shorts and bathing suit season.
Often, patients find that one or two treatments are sufficient. However, the number of treatments necessary depends on the number, color, and size of the vessels being treated.
Before 5 weeks after 5th treatment

Are you confused about the numerous skincare brushes available on the market? The simple answer is that only one, the Clarisonic Skin Care Brush System, has the patented oscillating brush system that was featured on Oprah's Favorite Things. The rest are just imitations.
At TIMELESS Laser & Skin Care, we sell the Clarisonic PRO model, which is available exclusively through physicians. PRO offers an additional third, higher power setting that is especially effective on the body, yet still gentle on the face. As of April 1, the set now includes: one waterproof, oscillating brush tool (for use at the sink or in the shower); one sleek countertop charger cradle; two brush heads for sensitive and delicate skin; one travel 2oz. Clarisonic daily cleanser; easy-to-follow user guide. ($195). [This is the same price as the Clarisonic model sold at Sephora, which is not the PRO mode, has only 2 speeds, and cannot be used with the new Spot Therapy Brush Head for use on the body.]
Each Clarisonic brush head lasts approximately 5-6 months. We also sell replacement brush heads:
Sensitive Brush Head for normal to sensitive skin. ($25)
Delicate Brush Head for those with delicate or extra-sensitive skin. Longer bristles are gentle for different skin conditions. ($25)
New! Spot Therapy Brush Head for cleansing areas of the body needing extra care and attention, including the décolleté, hands, arms, elbows and feet. Works only with Clarisonic PLUS and PRO models.($25)
Highlights
**Gentle enough for use twice daily, even with sensitive skin (including rosacea); yet effective enough for skin with acne
**Helps remove six times more makeup than soap and water alone.
**Leaves your skin feeling and looking smoother and prepares the skin for increased product absorption
**Waterproof (can be used in the shower or bath) and rechargable
**Helps reduce oily areas, dry skin patches, enlarged and clogged pores, and blemishes
**In a recent 2-month, home-use test with 110 subjects, after 4 weeks 81% felt the CLARISONIC cleans more effectively and reported healthier looking skin. 94% felt their skin was softer and 70% reported pore size decreased. The outer (stationary) brush and the inner (oscillating) brush work together with your skin to create a deep cleansing zone. The inner brush oscillates back and forth at a sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second. This zone between the two brushes gently flexes the pores to loosen dirt and oil giving you a clean you can't get with cleansing by hand.

GET YOUR SKIN READY FOR SPRING
Just as people have to change their wardrobes from winter to spring, skin habits have to be altered to ensure healthy, attractive skin. As you spend more time outside, you shift from the drying air of the heated indoors to unpredictable weather conditions, often with rapid and dramatic changes in humidity, temperature, and sun exposure.
The Society for the Advancement of Education recommends the following skin care measures as a way to make a smooth changeover between winter and spring: * Women should consider reevaluating their makeup. They should switch to a lighter foundation and moisturizer, preferably one with a built-in sunscreen or block, such as mineral-based powders and liquids. * Try to get over the "tanned is healthy" misconception. Sun damage causes premature aging and increases your risk of developing skin cancer. However, if you are desperate for a "sun-kissed look", instead of going to a tanning salon, use a self-tanner or the new spray tans available at high end salons. Cleanse your skin with a mild cleanser, and exfoliate regularly to help soothe rough, dry skin. * Acne conditions may worsen due to increased sweating from warmer temperatures. When coming inside from working or exercising, clean off the dirt and sweat with plain water or a mild cleanser. * Check to see if any medications you plan to take in the spring might cause photosensitivity (sun sensitivity), an inflammation of the skin induced by the combination of sunlight and certain medications or substances. The following is a list of common sun-sensitizing drugs: MedicineNet.com .
* Read directions carefully on insect repellants. Applying too much can cause problems. Be careful about which ones you apply on babies and toddlers. * Inspect your skin carefully. If you notice any differences or if any moles have changed or gotten bigger over the winter, consult a physician immediately.

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DIET
It is becoming increasingly clear that a host of illnesses, including heart disease, many forms of cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, and numerous autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and lupus, are at least exacerbated if not actually caused by chronic inflammation. Stress, lack of exercise, genetic predisposition and other lifestyle factors can all promote inflammation, but poor diet is an important, and often-overlooked, contributor. Incorporating anti-inflammatory foods and anti-inflammatory ways of preparing foods into our daily lives, is an excellent starting point for improving over-all health. An anti-inflammatory diet also provides steady energy; offers ample vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and dietary fiber; and can promote weight loss and maintenance of a healthy, stable weight. IMPLEMENTING AN ANTI-INFLAMMATORY DIET
Start by aiming for variety, including as much fresh food as possible, minimizing processed and fast foods, and making fruits and vegetables the foundation of your meals. Then focus on the following:
1. Improving your carbs. The majority of carbohydrates in your diet should be in the form of less-refined, less-processed foods with a low glycemic load. You can do this by replacing foods made with white flour with healthier whole and cracked grains, and part-whole-wheat and buckwheat noodles such as Japanese udon and soba.
2. Replacing your cooking oil. Whenever you can, use high-quality extra virgin olive oil as your main cooking fat (for a neutral tasting oil, use expeller-pressed, organic canola oil). Avoid safflower, sunflower, corn, cottonseed, and mixed vegetable oils, as well as butter and margarine.
3. Decreasing your consumption of animal protein. Except for fish (such as omega-3 rich wild Alaskan salmon) and reduced-fat dairy products, animal-derived protein should be limited. You can easily replace meat with vegetable protein such as beans, legumes and whole soy foods.
4. Eating more fiber. Try to eat 40 grams of fiber a day, simple to do if you increase your consumption of fruit, especially berries, vegetables and whole grains Adapted from Andrew Weil, M.D. | |
