Dear Friends, 

Now more than ever it's important to feel as if you are in control of your destiny.  We all have different stresses at different times of our lives.  They can range from financial burdens, family relationships, aging issues, accidents, or just bad days. 
 
The good news is that releasing the stress is almost identical in most circumstances.  Holding on to unnecessary stress can often make your health or situation worse. 
 
The near future may not be bright for our economy but that does not have to anchor us into a state of fear.  My favorite prayer is:
 
"  God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
the courage to change the things I can;
and the wisdom to know the difference."
  
As with all cycles.  There will be good times to come and we are all in this together.

I was fortunate enough to meet an impressive, bright, young athlete who has literally stunned the world of professional Mixed Martial Arts in less than 15 seconds.
 
Seth Petruzelli was put on the fight card as the "Main Event" at the last minute against the the once feared Kimbo Slice. 
 
Seth's personality is much different than most fighters.  Instead of the in your face intimidation there is a deeper self confidence that makes you know when you are around him he is the real deal.
 
Seth is also an entrepreneur, and it may be the other reason I like him.  He owns several local Mr. Smoothies and the Grand Opening for his new gym "The Jungle" was just this week.       
 
In the real world opportunities of a lifetime can come when you least expect it.  God doesn't always hand you your moments on your schedule.  Are you preparing now for your moments of greatness?

How to Let Go of Your Self-Defeating Feelings

There are three ways to approach the process of releasing. All are explored in depth in our in office "STRESS RELEASE" workshop and lead to the same result: liberating your natural ability to let go of any unwanted emotion on the spot and allowing some of the suppressed energy in your subconscious to dissipate.
 
The first way is by choosing to let go of the unwanted feeling. The second way is to welcome the feeling, to allow the emotion just to be. The third way is to dive into the core of the emotion.
 
 In grad school I remember this happening.
 
A professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students, 'How much do you think this glass weighs?
''50 gms!'... '100 gms!'... '125 gms' ... the students answered.

'I really don't know unless I weigh it,' said the professor, 'but, my question is: What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?'
'Nothing' the students said.
'Ok! What would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?' the professor asked.
'Your arm would begin to ache', said one of the students.
'You are right, now what would happen if I held it for a day?'
'Your arm could go numb, you might have severe muscle stress and paralysis and have to go to hospital for sure!' ventured another student; and all the students laughed.
'Very good. But during all this, did the weight of the glass change?' asked the professor.
'No'
'Then what caused the arm ache and the muscle stress?' The students were puzzled.
'Put the glass down!' said one of the students.
'Exactly!' said the professor. 'Life's problems are something like this. Hold it for a few minutes in your head and they seem okay. Think of them for a long time and they begin to ache. Hold it even longer and they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything'.

'It's important to think of the challenges (problems) in your life, but EVEN MORE IMPORTANT is to 'put them down' at the end of every day before you go to sleep. That way, you are not stressed, you wake up every day fresh and strong and can handle any issue, any challenge that comes your way!'

So, as it becomes time for you to leave office today, Remember friend to 'PUT THE GLASS DOWN TODAY'

 
We hold on to our feelings and forget that we are holding on to them. It's even in our language. When we feel angry or sad we don't usually say, "I feel angry," or, "I feel sad." We say, "I am angry," or, "I am sad." Without realizing it, we are misidentifying that we are the feeling. Often we believe a feeling is holding on to us. This is not true... we are always in control and just don't know it.

In 1910, DD Palmer (the worlds first chiropractor) wrote a book called The Science, Art, and Philosophy of Chiropractic, The Chiropractor's Adjustor. It was one of the first books to describe the symptoms of stress and what it takes to bring health back to the body.

In the book, he said "The determining causes of diseases are TRAUMATISM, POISON, and AUTO-SUGGESTION. In other words, what happens to us physically, chemically, and mentally effect our body's ability to prevent or be overun by disease.

Why would you ever go to a chiropractor?
 
You'd go to one who deals with each of these issues in your life. From the inception, chiropractic has dealt with the whole person. It's the whole-person approach that will be the new health care this century.
 
This is my personal approach and the approach of every healthcare provider at Affinity Health & Wellness Center.
