Your local Knights of Columbus council can play a key role in overriding the governor's veto of SB 749--legislation that ensures that no one is forced to pay for abortions, contraceptives or sterilizations in their health plans when this violates their religious or moral beliefs.
On September 12 the Missouri General Assembly will decide whether to override Governor Nixon's veto of SB 749. Overriding a governor's veto is never easy - its takes a two-thirds majority from each legislative chamber - but in this instance it is definitely doable. It will require, however, a large outpouring of support from Missouri citizens, including Missouri Knights.

MCC PRE-COMPOSED MESSAGE

The MCC has developed a quick and easy way for Knights to contact their state representative and senator. You don't even have to know who you state legislators are. At the MCC website Knights can send the pre-composed message. Simply put in your own contact information, including your email address, and click "send message." It takes no more than two minutes.
After sending the pre-composed message, you will receive two reply emails. The first confirms the message was sent and gives the name of the state representative and state senator who received the message. The second email reminds you to report back to the MCC when you get a response from your legislator.

WHAT YOUR COUNCIL CAN DO--VIRTUAL OVERRIDE EVENT

If your council hall has wireless access to the Internet, sponsor a SB 749 Virtual Veto Override event where Knights can send the MCC pre-composed message from laptop computers. Here is what you need:
- A space with wireless Internet access;
- Laptop computers (# based on size of council);
- Volunteer Knights to help send the MCC message on the laptop computers.
Your Council can also assist your parish in the SB 749 override campaign. All parishes have been contacted and asked to sponsor a Virtual Veto Override Sunday. Parishes have been encouraged to set up laptops in parish halls after Mass and conduct a virtual override event as described above.
